A cloudy, gray and miserable day / HEB reasurring E-mail

It was a cool and drizzly morning when I went outside to look for the boys so I could serve them breakfast...only not to find them...who knows where they were at.  It was much too cold for my liking so I went back to bed. I woke up a couple of hours later to a flashing alarm clock...really, another power outage?  We have had several this week!

On the upside, I am glad that Daylight Savings Time no longer affects me as it did when I was younger and working. I suppose a lot has to do with the fact that I am an insomniac so I do not have a regular sleeping schedule like normal people. Another positive is that it gets dark later and I can drive back from San Antonio or any other city without having to book a hotel as I have poor night vision.

I find it ironic that HEB sent me an e-mail reassuring me and its many customers about all the steps they are taking to keep their customers safe and to make sure we have access to the supplies we need to combat the coronavirus.  I have yet to see such communication from our local authorities.

I mentioned on another blog that I am grateful for the years I spent in Houston, Texas and how the City of Houston, as well as Harris County, instilled in its citizenry a philosophy of always being prepared be it for tropical storms, hurricanes or severe flooding. I credit them for making it easier for me to be prepared to handle this current health crisis.

I have supplies on hand to last four months though I think I could stretch it to six months or a little more. While I have more room in my Houston house than I currently do at Mom's house, I have begun using the non-working cars as storage as they are parked in the garage/carport and for now, the heat is not a factor.

Yesterday after visiting Home Depot I paid a visit to Dollar Tree. I remembered one of their employees told me some time ago to make sure I came early on Saturday or Sunday as they try to be fully stocked for their Mexican customers from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila.

I heeded said advice and was able to pick up Disinfectant Wipes as well as Spray Disinfectant that was sold out on my last visit.

Rob, if you are reading me I am sorry to say that a lot more people must have known about the homemade hand disinfectant hack as they were sold out of Aloe Vera gelNot worried though, I have plenty on hand.

Since I am a Nosey Rosie, I was looking at what people were buying. Observed that people from Mexico were purchasing regular stuff they have always bought while we Americans were buying up things to survive this pandemic.

Today we had a low of 61 and a high of 74 degrees.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Oh noooooo...she is pregnant!!!

The stray white cat that has adopted mother's house has never been like skinny as one would expect from a stray.  I do not feed her, I only provide her with water.  I am a cat person but I have never had a female cat.  I take that back, nine years ago the neighbors moved out and abandoned their cat, a very cute cat and I adopted her, even had her fixed only to have her get run over a short time later.

This cat thinks she is a dog...she follows me everywhere.  When I am hanging up laundry on the clothesline she will rub against me.  She has started to look a little wide around the middle and then she flipped over and I saw she had eight little pink things...what would one call them...cat titties?  I am not ready for this, I already have enough on my plate to add kittens to the mix :-(

The time change has affected my mother this year.  She does not want to get up at the new time and that gives me an excuse to go back to bed.  Neither one of us are morning people unless we have an early doctor's appointment or have to travel to San Antonio.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Feeling weird

When daylight savings goes into effect I am usually in Terlingua and it is the last day of the cook-off. Not this year as the cook-off takes place on the first full weekend in November and that wont be until this weekend.

I believe this is also the first time in a while that I spend Halloween in Del Rio. It makes no difference, we live too far away and no kids have come trick or treating in decades.

For some reason I am not as giddy as I usually am come cook-off time...have no idea why.  There is no anticipation no excitement...no nothing...hopefully it is only temporary.

Now that I have finally been able to access my blog e-mail account, I came across a bit of sad though anticipated bad news.  Irwin, late Betty's husband passed away.  I knew he would not last long without her. They were such a perfect couple and even at their age, the love and respect they felt for each other was something beautiful to behold. May you rest in peace Irwin next to your beloved Betty. They were an institution at the cook-off and will be dearly missed!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Fallen back on old vices

The wind was blowing mighty strong today and kept on until around 8:00 p.m. this evening. Temperature wise we had a high of 71 degrees  For the most part I have been staying in. Considered driving Midnight (the Toyota) to the lake since it has basically been just sitting in the garage, but the wind made me change my mind.  I have driven dad's old car on both occasions that I have gone to Mexico to see the doctor.

In this global economy everything in the world affects gas prices.  Just last Monday regular gasoline was selling for $3.13 a gallon. Before heading to Mexico stopped at the only truck stop we have in Del Rio, which due to its proximity to the border is .02 to .03 cents higher than in town...but .14 cents higher?

Have you guys gotten accustomed to the time change?  Basically since I retired it has not bothered me, I do not have to be at any particular place at any given time.  However, I have fallen back on old vices and it has affected my night time schedule.

I used to love to watch foreign soap operas...my favorites were Colombian and Brazilian soaps...they are more down to earth and credible than Mexican soap operas.  Since these soaps are beamed to the border from Mexico City and we get to catch the signal for free, why not?  Only problem is that except for the border...the interior of Mexico has not gone on Daylight Savings Time.

Now if I want to go online, I have to do so an hour later which affects my ability to beat Bloggers 2:00 a.m. deadline and still be able to post on the same day. As you can see I have nothing to blog about! :D

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
