Sipriano / Little bird / Rain

Last week I was mulling whether or not to call Pollito and his drunk sidekick as the weeds and baby mesquite had gotten out of hand with all the recent rains. It was around 10:00 a.m. I was using my new hoe to try to clear some of the weeds when I circled around the back of the house as the weeds were too high to go through the front yard to get my gloves.

We do not have dogs, but all the neighbors do, and if someone walks by (very few people walk) they will let you know it. I happened to get a glimpse of a male riding a bicycle. Out here in the boonies, a person riding a bicycle is up to no good. It is usually gang members tagging the fences. I did not go to the front of the house and the dogs kept on barking. That could only mean that the person was still there.

I decided I did not need to hide and walked around the front only to see a big hefty guy standing by the fence apparently waiting on me. He saw I was leary so he took off his sunglasses and cap and said...remember me?... I am Sipriano the guy that worked with the County that picked up all the tree limbs that the guy you hired didn't.

That put me at ease as I did remember him as he helped me back in December 2021 when that worthless yardman and his even more worthless worker (the scary guy) did not complete the job they were hired to do. I even wrote a letter to the County Commissioner praising Sipriano for going above and beyond his job duties to help me.

He told me that he had been by several times as he saw that my yard needed mowing but he never saw me outside and the gate was chained and locked. He said he was not working and needed a job. So I offered him one. A few glitches here and there mainly with his hired help (his young cousin) who was sick and tired of working in the sun and was hot...so he took him home. Why do young people not want to work? On the second day, he brought his son who just got out of fifth grade and that kid worked harder than his cousin who looked to be in his late teens.

While they were working they captured a very tame bird that most likely got out of his cage. They asked if he was mine...told them I could not have birds with all my cats so they were welcome to him before the cats decided they wanted a snack.

We have had so much rain, these were the latest figures...that is until last night. We had a very strong storm that began at 11:30 p.m. and ended Saturday at 1:20 a.m. The saturation has been unbelievable east of San Antonio.

I was watching a YouTube video from Campervan Kevin and loved how he and his friends went back to basics and tent, car, as well as van-camped...well except for Carolyn who took her RV. I am so envious!

Broken A/C / Rains

Just an update since I mentioned it on my other blog last week though I realize not as many people read it as they do this one. The A/C started acting up early Friday morning, I am disappointed because I had them out last month and they found nothing wrong with it though I explained to the repairman and the owner's wife what it had been doing and it seemed serious to me.

I realize they have a lot of clients and had a long list to still service. Still, I think this was preventable, especially on a unit that is only five years old and is top of the line not like the piece of trash another A/C company sold us that only lasted three years. They forgot to register the unit so the affected part was not covered and would have cost me a fortune to fix that is why I went with this company that has a good rating with the BBB.

I think I pissed off the owner's wife because I called at seven o'clock in the morning. How was I supposed to know that she forwarded the company's number to her cellphone after hours? She would not have been happy if she had only known that I had planned to call them at 4:00 a.m. I wanted to beat the other clients since last month I was number 53 or so on the list.

I was told they might not be able to get to me on Friday and I would have to be serviced on Saturday.  However, they made it that afternoon only to give me the bad news that it was the blower motor and they would have to place an order for it. The core (?) would also have to be washed.

It was a hellish weekend even with the ceiling fans going...I do not care for ceiling fans...I know too many people that have been hurt by them including one that started a house fire. The lady was my mother's Del Rio hairdresser who had this wobbly ceiling fan that was constantly on in the converted garage that she turned into a hair salon. The fan fell and burst into flames and she lost her business and home and has never been able to recuperate.

Just a reminder...per Google you can safely run a ceiling fan for eight hours...not for hours or days on end like many people I know.

I called the owner's wife Monday afternoon and she said her husband was stuck in Dallas unable to get a flight back to Del Rio but she had sent him the pictures her A/C technician took and she was sure he had ordered it but did not know when it would arrive or when they would be able to install it.

We finally got heavy downpours which helped in bringing down the temperatures even though it upped the humidity...isn't it always something?  I found a new use for an old carrot cake container...if you guessed a place to put mesquite pods in...your win!!!

I took the above picture before the rains.  It looked like a creek afterward.

The precipitation was so needed in this area. Though I feel for those in the north part of Texas who were flooded out and lost everything.

I am grateful for the temporary relief in temperatures.

I just hope this computer holds up as I know warm temperatures are not good for them. I considered going to the "unofficial cooling center" better known as Val Verde County Library but our Covid-19 numbers keep on growing and I have no idea where I have my disposable gloves...with my luck, I would catch Monkeypox. 😥

You guys know I am a cat person and of all the feline videos on YouTube, this is my favorite. Her name is Penny and she looks a lot like Nicolás. It is a Short it will only take 36 seconds and it relates to today's post.

We traded the rain for triple digit heat

It has rained so much these past weeks in Texas that many counties including Val Verde have almost erased their severe drought status. These have brought other related problems including HUGE mosquitos, fire ants, and high levels of humidity.

I do not know if you recall that I bought several heavy-duty containers last year when Home Depot had a sale. I started using a couple of them to capture rainwater as my 32-gallon trash cans tops took a beating when we had that severe hail storm that damaged dad's old car.  I decided to use most of them as they have heavy-duty tops to seal off and protect my liquid gold from mosquitos trying to lay their eggs and also serve as a place for the cats to take naps.

It has been incredibly hot lately and the high humidity levels make it being outside almost unbearable. Notwithstanding I had errands to run yesterday and had to bite the bullet. Last week I went to mail some payments at the post office where we have our P.O. Box.  It was around 1:30 p.m. and when I pulled the handle to drop my mail it was so packed another envelope would not have been able to fit. Had no choice but to drive to the north part of town to the other post office where at least my mail has not been lost "yet".

I swear that Louis DeJoy thanks to the disgraced, twice impeached, one-term former liar-in-chief that appointed him last year as Post Master General with the finality of delaying and sabotaging the mail-in ballots for the 2020 election has caused severe damage to our mail service that will not be easy to reverse. I am still waiting on a credit card that was supposed to have arrived last week. Most people unless they are daily watchers of  The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC would probably not be aware of this as she is the only one that has covered this topic extensively.

While gasoline prices have stabilized since Colonial Pipeline was a victim of a ransomware cyberattack, there are now long lines at HEB because Murphy Oil (Walmart) tore down their station and is building a new one.

A gallon of regular gasoline is going for $2.629

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
