A horrific day in Texas

My day started normal enough...I was grateful that the bad weather that was supposed to affect us last night did not materialize...not even a drop of rain.

I like to watch "The View" and I thought the worst thing that would happen today was that I would have to listen to that hideous Kellyanne Conway promoting her book whose title "Here's the Deal" which is a phrase often echoed by President Biden...is she shading him?

To say it was a train wreck is, to put it mildly, she was booed by the audience and fought with a Republican guest host with whom she worked during the prior administration along with having altercations with the other hosts and then went into one of her usual rants...the woman is a psycho!

The Noon News comes after the conclusion of The View and it was then that they announced there was a shelter in place at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas but nothing else. I went about my chores outside but left the TV on and when I came back inside for some water, is when I heard of what at the time was only the death of two people but no mention that they were children. I figured it was some angry boyfriend or ex-husband having killed his significant other who might have worked at that school...was I ever wrong!

It wasn't until the 4:00 p.m. News that I came back inside and turned the TV to Telemundo-San Antonio where I learned of the atrocity that had taken place as both news anchors, two ladies who recently came back from maternity leave were doing their level best to unsuccessfully fight back tears and keep their composure.

Del Rio is 70 miles from Uvalde, Texas...a city I know well and have documented several times on this blog. It has a population of about 16,000 people. You hear about these mass shootings but you never think it is going to hit so close to home and that the victims would be second, third, and fourth-graders.

Senator Murphy gave a tear-jerking speech on the Senate floor...is anyone on the GOP side listening?

You see more outrage from NBA coach Steve Kerr than from Republicans.

I am so glad we have an empathetic President in Joe Biden...and I ask the same question he did..."When in God's name are we going to stand up to the Gun Lobby?"

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has done everything in his power to make it easier to purchase guns and will along with the disgraced, twice impeached one-term former liar-in-chief, and Cancun Cruz address an NRA meeting in Houston, Texas this weekend. Only Senator John Cornyn remembered he had a prior appointment for which he will have to remain in Washington D.C. spineless bastard!

As I type this they have confirmed the death of 19 children, 2 adults, and the scumbag killer. There are other victims in critical condition at area hospitals which unfortunately can make the death toll higher.

My heart goes out to all the parents, and families of victims as well as to the residents of Uvalde, Texas.

I do not think I will be able to sleep this evening.

  1. Just finished watching a press conference held by Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and other political cronies. While Cancun Cruz was in attendance he did not speak and looked BORED!

There was a heckler in the crowd but since it was so dark I had no idea it was Beto O'Rourke (Democratic Candidate for Governor of Texas). The mayor of Uvalde was very disrespectful not to say downright nasty to Beto and forced security to escort him out.

Abbott blamed "mental health" and failed policies in cities like Chicago and New York (what the hell does that have to do with Texas?) but never said a thing about his relaxing of gun laws where almost anyone can purchase and conceal carry a weapon. How can an 18-year-old purchase an assault weapon and ammunition when he can not even buy a can of beer at Stripes?

Please fellow Texans open your eyes and make your voice heard this November!

  2. As Biden himself said no where in the world are there as many Mass Shootings as there are in the US and it seems the Targets are Children, People of Colour or Ethnic Groups.

It's about time they change the laws.

    1. Unless more citizens choose to exercise their right to vote nothing is going to change in my State of Texas. Sadly, as I have documented on this blog very few people actually do...at least not in Val Verde County.

    1. I am a responsible gun owner myself, but I do not understand why anyone except the military would need a goddamn assault rifle or hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

The NRA has all these worthless Republicans under their thumb by funding their campaigns. We need to get rid of the dark money that mostly funds the GOP.

If I was in Houston, I would go to the NRA meeting where these worthless politicians are going to speak and exercise my right to protest, and I would not even care if I was arrested. I am hopeful a lot of people will do so on behalf of myself and many others.

  4. Those guns with multiple round magazines should be very, very, very hard to get. Maybe for a feral hog hunter, OK. Still, there would be some who go berserk with them. Yet, slowing them down a little might help. And in the case of the young man who was doing the shooting today, more resources to take care of troubled kids could help. Sounded like he had been completely miserable for at least 5 years, if not more.....All I knew to do about this was call Cornyn and Cruz and say I thought they should get to work on HR 8, from 2021, which they have been dragging their feet on. I did see that McConnell finallly said something about working on a bipartisan thing (yeah right, but maybe it could happen.. Sometime).

    1. Those multiple round magazines had been banned when Democrats were in charge but as soon as the Republicans came into power they let that law expire.

Why that scumbag killer who was obviously deranged and in need of mental health counseling the Republicans do not address the main issue...CHANGING THE GUN LAWS...an 18-year-old should not have access to these types of weapons! If I got drunk at a bar and then killed someone on my way home that bar would be sued...why can't GUN SHOPS be held to the same standard?

As far as McConnell is concerned this is just a stall tactic because he sees how bad it looks for his party and how it will affect them in the midterm elections in November.

  5. Responsible adult gun owners are one thing but like you said why do we need assault weapons in the hands of lunatics and who needs all that ammo. These Politicians don't give a damn about the people they are supposed to be taking care of. All they want is the money in their pockets!!

  6. Right now Gov. Greg Abbott is giving another news conference along with Don McLaughlin mayor of Uvalde and saying both were misled in the lies he told in his prior news conference on Wednesday.

What came out in the Department of Public Safety morning news conference was very damning...19 officers outside of the school just standing around while parents were begging them to go inside. Kids calling 911 asking when the cops were going to come to save them?

I found Cecilia Abbott's choice of the color of her attire odd...while others wore black...she wore red and blended with the stage curtains.

If you get a chance please watch "The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell" which aired last night Thursday, May 26, 2022, it may well be the best show he has ever done...he spoke truth to power...thank you, Lawrence!

  7. I wanted to clarify that the picture I took from the television of the New York Times article stating Texas lawmakers were going to drop most handgun licensing requirements is something that was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott on September 1, 2021. It is already in the books.
