Stripes on Spur 239 / Breakfast Tacos / Long food lines

Tuesday after I left Dollar Tree I wanted to buy something to eat so I would not have to make something at home as I am sick of sandwiches, salads, and canned soups but being late in the afternoon the lines at fast-food joints were long.

Regular Unleaded was selling for $1.739

This morning I woke up way too early and decided to drive to the Stripes closer to the house to pick-up some breakfast tacos. This is the Stripes on Spur 239 going to Mexico and the only truck stop we have in town.

Though you can not see it because I cropped the
picture there is a plexiglass shield between the customer
and the employee who takes your order.

The same applies to this picture there is a plexiglass
shield that has always been there even pre-COVID

I almost died laughing because where there used to be tables (they have a dine-in area) that I am sure were removed for social distancing there were large quantities of beer for the "beer smugglers" to take back to Mexico. Noticed that the prices were very much in line with what they sell for at HEB.

When I was heading back home I noticed that the lines to get into the Val Verde County Community Center had grown longer that is when I realized that this must have been a free food drive for this Precinct.

Lots of people hurting without jobs and families to feed.

Today the big school bus did not come to deliver breakfast to school-age children instead it was a smaller bus.

All morning we had gray skies it was not until the afternoon that the sun came out.  We had a low of 75 a high of 96 with a heat index of 99 degrees.  This evening we had a beautiful almost full moon.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Why are my pictures disappearing?

For a while, I thought it was just a problem with Blogger and that it only affected the pictures I borrowed from El Zócalo and Del Rio News-Herald though I did give them credit for them. Then my own pictures started disappearing from my blog.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I have been having a heck of a time going to sleep.  I believe I might have slept 7 or 8 hours in the past three daysTo be clear I am NOT asking for remedies or suggestions to my problem just documenting this on my blog which doubles as my Cyber Journal.

We have been having hellish temperatures lately.  Monday, April 20th we had a high of 97 with a heat index of 101. Yesterday, April 21st we had a high of 98, and today we had a high of 96 with a heat index of 100 degrees.

The laundromats are closed though I consider them to be an essential business.  I can understand that it would be difficult to limit the number of people inside of them at any given time. Fortunately, we had a lot of wind today which helped dry my hand-washed laundry faster. Though a darn dove or crow did poop on one of my tank tops.  Hate those effing birds that is why I do not mind when the boys have them for dessert!

I hope everyone is doing well.  Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Nice cool weather

Yesterday and today we have had rather chilly temperatures for this part of the country.  Yesterday it was 55 degrees in the morning and today it got down to 48.  A sharp contrast from the 90's of a few days ago.  No complains here, I am loving this weather.

For the past couple of days we have had strong winds as well, glad they are gone.  Tried to do a blog post two nights ago but once again I was jinxed by the Internet gods!  So as not to bore you I will put the message as a Cyber Journal note for future reference.

Would you like to see the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight for free and live along the Mexican border?  TV Azteca is carrying it live for free in Mexico whereas in the United States it is a pay-per-view event.

How do you do that?  Unplug your cable connection from your TV and do a channel scan to pick up the Mexican channels that are beamed to the border from Mexico City.  It is going to be carried by channel 7 but in HDTV's I believe it is channel 25.1 or something like that. It will be broadcast starting at 9:00 p.m. This has been a public service announcement :)

Not much going on except me being glued to the TV watching the playoffs.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Web acceleration Client Error (515.2)  Upstream TCP Connection Establishment Timeout.

The web Acceleration Client could not create a TCP connection with the web server or proxy server. Retrying the web page may connect the problem.

Did a Windows Network Diagnostics and it gave me the following message....The connection between access point, router or cable modem and the internet is broken.

How did I solve the issue?  Unplugged the modem and router and went to sleep!

May 2014 trip to Uvalde

Thursday we drove down to Uvalde, Texas a town 70 miles east of Del Rio to take my mother to her doctor's appointment. All this past week it has been in the 90's.  We had severe storm warnings and ominous skies but not a drop of rain fell either on our way there or back.

Border Patrol Check Point - Uvalde sector

The doctor my mother sees travels to Uvalde from San Antonio. While I would rather drive for an hour than the three it would take me to get San Antonio, the wait is long!  Her appointment was for 11:30 a.m. and there were others ahead of her who had been there since 8:30 a.m. but he did not arrive till noon.

Gas prices went down again which is always a good thing. Look at all the cloud coverage we had yesterday...but they just blew on by.

While HEB had this price on Veterans Memorial, it had $3.47 by the pumps.  However the going price was $3.42 around town.

My Federal Express package never made it.  Bargain Outfitters has this thing called Smartpost where if a package is small they turn it over to the local post office for delivery.  Problem is the post office does not deliver to mother's house that is why we have a P.O. Box.  They had my telephone number on the package and could have called but they sent it back as undeliverable.  It is a good thing the Chili Cook-off is still five months away!

Cyber Journal Note

Thursday May 8, 2014 they installed speed bumps on mother's street.  A bit too late for some cats and dogs including my late cat Bonnie Blue but maybe it will cut down on the speeding.
