Not what we expected but we will take it...

The weather forecasters have been promising rain since Monday but it eluded us until this afternoon. However, it was more drama than precipitation. A strong wind gust came first, kicking up so much dirt I could barely see in front of me as I ran to bring in all the cats' bowls while they were still eating. This was followed by loud thunder and then a three-minute shower.

This is all I got in my primitive rain catchment.  Since it had not rained in a long time I got more dirt from the roof than water.

This is the larger of two metal tubs
I used to have for the stray dogs

Because I knew the quality of the rain I would capture would not be pristine I did not open the lids of the water containers that from lack of rain I had filled with City of Del Rio water. Del Rio gets its water from San Felipe Springs which then feeds San Felipe Creek and that I have featured many times on this blog.

This weekend I spent raking all those pesky mesquites pods managing to fill the trash can that thankfully went into the city dump today. Even so, I still have a ton more for next week and was afraid that the rain would make them sprout. My arms still hurt 😢

You can see my little piles of
those nasty pods 😠

You can see from the above picture how little rain actually fell and how many more piles of pods I have to deal with.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

How can it already be Thursday?

This week has flown by so fast that I can not believe it is already Thursday. The heat and wind have been horrible and I still do not know why our wind patterns have changed so much as no one seems to be mentioning it.

While I have not left the house I have been busy raking those horrible mesquite pods in the morning and late afternoon when the heat is not as bad. It is so demoralizing to pick up these suckers only to come back that evening or the following day and find even more pods to rake.

Yesterday Wednesday, was trash day and I was able to fill two empty 44 lb. bags of cat food full of mesquite pods and I haven't even made a dent. I wish it was not so expensive to cut down all these pesky trees. We do not need the shade nor the extra work they require. Over the years several have been struck by lighting, been through droughts, ant infestations, and yet they have not perished...😢

The heat and UV levels have been high. I have a tan line that clearly shows where my socks and capri pants line were.

I fell asleep watching Late Night With Seth Meyers on NBC last night. Following them is a repeat of the News 4 ten o'clock San Antonio news when I woke up...and guess what? A San Antonio hospital suffered the same fate as Val Verde Regional Medical Center...their patient's information was compromised and by compromised I mean stolen! To date no mention of this on the Del Rio newspaper webpage.

Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Where does time go?

My day started very early this morning and it never stopped until late this afternoon.  I had so much stuff to do from washing dishes, clothes, to raking leaves as well as those darn mesquite pods. Where does time go?

I had to delete several shows I recorded on the DVR as it is almost 100% full and I am told by Spectrum that there is no way I can transfer them to another format.  Makes we want to drop the cable portion and go with YouTube who has unlimited DVR recording space.

I suppose it is my fault though...anytime I record a show...it guarantees that I will not watch it.  I just simply do not have the time!

I was hoping to be able to watch my Spurs this evening but at least in my cable line-up, it was not carried. The only basketball game was on TNT and it was the Lakers vs The Golden State Warriors neither of which I am a fan of.

We had a high of 98 a low of 72 with a heat index of 100 degrees.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Mesquite Pods / Linda Lou

I got up early to beat the heat and rake mesquite pods before they seed?  I do not know if that is a proper term.  Neither Paquito nor Nico would let me, they decided to attack the rake. Gave up and picked them up by hand. I was only concerned with removing the ones that I run over on the way to the garage.

Filled an old Ziploc bag. Why?  In case the cat and dog food bags where I put the weeds falls over they will not spill out and I won't have to pick them up again.  Though this time I did throw in a couple of rocks in each bag to prevent that.  It only takes me one time to learn my lesson.

This is Terlita my old camping van that has been
sitting patiently in the carport/garage waiting for
a new transmission.

Besides the pesky mesquite pods, there are other prickly plants that I am afraid to run over and get a flat. Found some fluorescent pink spray paint and drew circles around them to avoid those spots and hopefully remove one of these days.

If you run over these you are going to get a flat. I stepped on
one of them and it went through my tennis shoe but I can not
find my long nose pliers to remove it.

When I was doing that the winds picked up and ended spraying the area unevenly.  I took pictures but for some reason, I have not been able to upload them from my phone to the computer when before I did not have a problem.

Quit at 11:00 a.m. and headed immediately for the shower.  It felt so good I sat in the recliner and was almost about to doze off when the telephone rang.  It was my dear friend Linda Lou (the former beauty queen) that I have mentioned many times on this blog.  It had been a while since I had heard from her.

We had a wonderful conversation remembering old times.  It was an adventure every time we went out on the town.  We laughed and laughed ...it was good for the soul...I really needed that.  After our long chat, I promptly fell asleep, that one hour nap was also needed.

It has been so hot lately.  Today we reached a high of 104 with a low of 78 with a heat index of 109.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Yuck...yard work :-(

My arms ache from raking all those darn mesquite pods!!!  Have I mentioned how much I HATE yard work?  Managed to rake up three 5 gallon buckets worth and that was only around the clothesline area :-(

KSAT12 news in San Antonio said it rained in Val Verde county.  It certainly was not in the southern part.  Even though the temperature was a very pleasant 75 degrees when I was watering the trees and plants this evening.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
