Finally quit procrastinating...

This morning the darn cats started running like wild horses on the roof but this time I was already awake so went out to feed them as I had a long list of errands to run that I have been putting off and I wanted to get an early start (well early for me anyway).

First stop was the post office where those darn house flippers refuse to give me a break...grrrrrrr!!! I have a separate bag that I keep in the trunk for my mail and when I opened it I realized I had forgotten that I had items I needed to take to the Recycling Center...so no time like the present to get rid of them.

The City of Del Rio Recycling Center is next to Highway 90 the main highway coming from San Antonio so I decided to go pay dad a visit since tomorrow it will be full when people honor their late loved ones for El Día de Los Muertos celebration.

There were some persons there mostly retired like me who decided to get a head start and beat the crowds. There were two funeral canopies set up so I suppose the burials would take place later in the day...I did not stay long.

HEB needed to be visited and what was my surprise but that it was full of people which is not customary for a Monday morning.  If that was not bad enough it was full of screaming tykes since they had the day off! I don't ever remember getting the day after Halloween off if it fell on a weekend 😡

Made a stop at Stripes to pick up some lunch plates and saw several Texas National Guardsmen doing the same...I could have sworn I read that they were being fed at Broke Mill RV Park...that or they are tired of their food.

Came home to eat and then headed to the laundromat which again for a Monday had way too many people and kids for my liking. Not a single person other than myself was wearing a face mask. This is the reason I had not wanted to come but that is what I get for procrastinating.

I went outside to sit in my car but it was hot. I figured since I was wearing two masks I would be safe but sat far away from people just to be on the safe side.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

A day without electricity

Lately, I have had a hard time going back to sleep after giving mother her early morning medication.   Rather than laying in bed, I have been getting up and doing other things.  Yesterday I decided to make an early trip to the laundromat.  Had never used a maxi load washer (equivalent to four loads), used two...now towels and linens are once again done for the month.

Since I was already out and about drove into town to check the P.O. Box, gassed up the car...$2.51 a gallon for regular unleaded and picked up three lunch plates at Stripes (one was going to be my dinner).

I felt a sense of accomplishment that my chores were done by 11:30 a.m.  It would have been a great day had the electricity not gone out at 2:00 p.m.  We are no strangers to losing power in the area where mother lives.

The house got hot pretty fast as my mother is always cold and the A/C is usually set at 80.  This is one of the main reasons why our electric bill is higher in the winter rather than the summer.

We sat outside for hours where fortunately there was a nice breeze.  Then a darn wasp bit me in the face!  It was my fault because again due to my procrastination, I had not exterminated the nest. Went on a killing rampage and did away with a bunch of them.

Mother wanted to eat in the kitchen but I nixed that.  Way too hot and even hotter if I heated something on the stove.  Decided we needed to go for a ride in an air conditioned car and pick up something to eat in town.

Was very surprised to find police directing traffic and businesses shut down on Veteran's Memorial the main artery in Del Rio.  Even Stripes and HEB were closed.  Saw some people at Domino's where I stopped and asked what happened?  Was told the main transformer had exploded and the only fast food places still opened were McDonalds and Subway as you come into Del Rio from San Antonio.

Mother does not like sandwiches and I rather starve than eat at McDonald's but out of curiosity drove by there.  My God!  I have never seen McDonalds so jammed packed....for the record, I don't wait in lines either.

We have two HEB's...drove by the old one that is located in historic downtown but the whole street was blocked off as the light company was working on the lines.  So we came home to eat cereal and milk.

Opened all the windows and put mother to bed.  I went outside and sat with the dogs. Surprisingly it was not very dark though the moon was only half full.  I could hear the neighbor's voices, so a lot of people were sitting outside as well. Went inside at midnight and woke up at 2:43 a.m. when I felt the air conditioning hit my face.

It is amazing how we come to rely on electricity. If it had only been me, there would have been no problem...I would have slept outside in my zero gravity recliner. While Terlingua is a huge party in the desert, sometimes described as Spring Break for adults, it has also taught me a lot about survival.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

A nice warm 100 degree day

I got up early (8:10 a.m.) as I could not sleep any more...it was humid and hot.  We finally turned on the air conditioner and mom put on a sweater (she has a cold) and all was well.  Since I was already up decided an early morning trip to HEB was in order as I have not been able to go to Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila for our monthly grocery run.

Stopped at Stripes to check out their breakfast plates which are only $2.99 daily.  Had been eyeing  a Stripes coffee mug that will actually fit in my car's cup holder as my $1.00 Dollar Tree mug has given all it is going to give.  It sells for $3.99 and the first refill is free.

You might ask yourself "Belinda, I thought you did not like coffee?"  Well it is not that I do not like coffee... it does not like ME.  It makes me jittery, nervous and short tempered but if I do not drink it on trips out of town...I get very sleepy. I happen to be the sole driver in our household and I do not want to wind up killing us both.

Since I was all peppy decided to go to the laundromat and get that chore over with.  It was awfully hot especially since I was driving dad's car (no A/C).  It wasn't until this evening that I learned it had reached 100 degrees (38 Celsius).  Guess we turned that A/C just in the nick of time.

It is past midnight and I am still jittery from the coffee I drank more than 15 hours ago!  See what I mean by coffee not being my friend :-(

Laundromat Time

Got up early and finally made the dreaded trip to the laundromat.  Sheets and towels today.  It was wonderful because I was the only one there.  I guess the early bird really does get to eat the worm!

Late trip into town because it was a very hot day.  Even at 7:21 p.m. it was 95 degrees!

The  reflected gas price at Stripes is only if you use
their credit card...otherwise it costs .12 more.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
