Finally quit procrastinating...

This morning the darn cats started running like wild horses on the roof but this time I was already awake so went out to feed them as I had a long list of errands to run that I have been putting off and I wanted to get an early start (well early for me anyway).

First stop was the post office where those darn house flippers refuse to give me a break...grrrrrrr!!! I have a separate bag that I keep in the trunk for my mail and when I opened it I realized I had forgotten that I had items I needed to take to the Recycling Center...so no time like the present to get rid of them.

The City of Del Rio Recycling Center is next to Highway 90 the main highway coming from San Antonio so I decided to go pay dad a visit since tomorrow it will be full when people honor their late loved ones for El Día de Los Muertos celebration.

There were some persons there mostly retired like me who decided to get a head start and beat the crowds. There were two funeral canopies set up so I suppose the burials would take place later in the day...I did not stay long.

HEB needed to be visited and what was my surprise but that it was full of people which is not customary for a Monday morning.  If that was not bad enough it was full of screaming tykes since they had the day off! I don't ever remember getting the day after Halloween off if it fell on a weekend 😡

Made a stop at Stripes to pick up some lunch plates and saw several Texas National Guardsmen doing the same...I could have sworn I read that they were being fed at Broke Mill RV Park...that or they are tired of their food.

Came home to eat and then headed to the laundromat which again for a Monday had way too many people and kids for my liking. Not a single person other than myself was wearing a face mask. This is the reason I had not wanted to come but that is what I get for procrastinating.

I went outside to sit in my car but it was hot. I figured since I was wearing two masks I would be safe but sat far away from people just to be on the safe side.

Unsolicited buyer / Prescriptions / Lunch Plates and more beer

It was going to be a warm day so I was outside watering the trees by 7:30 a.m.  At this hour it was still pleasant when a car came to a stop by the fence and a man got out without a face mask on...I did not have one on either as I was in my home with two locks on the main gate and not expecting company.

I did not walk to the fence I just asked him what he needed and he yells that he wanted to know if my van was for sale (Terlita my camping van) and I told him it was NOT.  He does not go away asks me if it runs...what difference does it make?  It is not for sale...grrrrrrrrrr!!!  I was polite and told him it did not. He then asks me what is wrong with it, I reply the transmission went out on it. Then he asks what kind of motor it has.  I was losing my cool...told him I had NO idea.  He asks again if I was sure I did not want to sell it...my polite reply was...No, Sir... as I moved on to a tree further from the fence.

This man wants to buy Terlita, Pollito wants to buy Mom's mini-van and a creepy man wants to purchase dad's old car.  Excuse me but I do not have a For Sale Sign on any of our cars. Ok...end of rant!

I called it a morning and went inside to take a shower to cool off and calm down.  I usually do not go online until the evening but I was waiting for an e-mail from my new health care professional but his staff is so incompetent I am having second thoughts even though I like him.

That is when I got an e-mail from HEB notifying me my prescriptions were ready to be picked up...darn has a month already gone by? With or without a pandemic time sure flies by in my little world. Our temperatures are in the high 90's and starting next week we will be in the triple digits.

After some consideration decided to go pick them up today using their drive-thru. I apologize for the poor quality as my windshield was dirty...I need to stop off at the carwash soon!

It was past noon and I was hungry so I decided to go back to the same Stripes as yesterday to purchase some lunch plates. Today I did not crop the pictures so you could see the plexiglass that protects the food from people sneezing on it.

In this picture, you can see the plexiglass goes almost all the way down leaving about an inch clearance towards the bottom.  You might have to enlarge it by clicking on it as I have a cheap cellphone that takes terrible pictures.

Here are the Salsa and Fruit Bars that have been closed since the pandemic began.

My lunch plate consisted of a Chile Relleno, with rice and beans with a flour tortilla that I had to give to the cats :-(

The other lunch plate was half a chicken with rice and green beans.

Yesterday when I came to purchase my breakfast tacos it was early in the morning. Today it was past noon so they had even more beer for sale for our Mexican neighbors though actually since the border is officially closed only American citizens or legal residents can cross it into Mexico.

Today we had a low of 76 a high of 99 with a heat index of 104 degrees.

Shamed at a Stripes store

What a week it has been!  We went from warm sunny days to cloudy, rainy and chilly ones. I am not complaining as the rest of the nation is under the grip of Mr. Winter even though we are technically still in Autumn.

Drove into town a couple of days ago with the intention of doing some shopping at HEB but the parking lot was so darn packed I just drove past it. Decided to stop at Stripes (convenience store/gasoline station) to pick up some lunch as I am tired of eating canned goods for lunch and dinner.

It was past 2:00 p.m. so the selection was limited but still better than the alternative. I was the only one in line so took my time as the girl took my order but soon more people arrived. I went from ordering one lunch plate to ordering four. The girl that took my order knows me (as a customer) and remarked...guess you aren't planning on cooking for a while...an older lady in back of me asked...doesn't your husband complain for not getting a home cooked meal?  I replied, "I am not married Ma'am". Then this little old man said "and she is not going to get married unless she learns to cook!" then winked at me.  Was I just shamed at a Stripes for not cooking by two people who were also buying their meal there?

With my back problems, I can no longer lift a twelve-pack of beer so have been buying six-packs. Would you believe beer is cheaper at Stripes than at HEB or Walmart?  Actually, Walmart has the highest price.

Spurs Corner

I certainly enjoyed watching The Spurs play like it was the 2014 Finals these last two games. We got revenge on both the LA Lakers and Utah Jazz.

Rain in the forecast?

This past trip to San Antonio really tired me out, it has taken me several days to recoup. I finally made it to the grocery store Saturday afternoon but it was too late to pick up a lunch plate at Stripes, everything was dried out by then.

I did not feel like eating another salad so stopped at KFC as I do not think my mother could take another one of my meals!  Today, I did make it to Stripes but I guess they made their green hatch chile enchiladas early as they looked dry...I bought them anyway!

I stopped at The Dollar Tree to pick up a couple of items before it becomes the Three Dollar Tree with all the planned tariffs on China. Ended up buying more than I thought so nixed the trip to Walmart to stay within budget.  Maybe I can make a grocery run to Ciudad Acuña sometime this month.  Just remembered that Mexico celebrates their Independence Day on September 16th so it will have to be after that date as the lines to cross will be long on both sides of the border.

Being the "centavera" that I am (Spanish for penny pincher) I was going to treat mother to a frosty at Wendy's (they are on special for .50 cents) but when I was going to bring the car around it had gotten very cloudy and the wind had picked up so nixed that idea.

I am ambivalent on the weather forecasters claim of rains for the next couple of days.  Our yard is already a jungle from the ones two weeks ago. Where is my tall weathered cowboy who enjoys mowing the lawn?
