We had a deluge early this morning

I was awakened early this morning by all the thunder and lightning then the rains began. I have mentioned in the past that there are leaks in the kitchen but due to the drought, I had forgotten about them. Mother nature would soon remind me.

The San Antonio news channels mentioned Del Rio received 1 to 2 inches but I beg to differ. The Mexican newspaper El Zócalo reported that Ciudad Acuña received 3.5 to 4.1 inches during the deluge this morning. https://www.zocalo.com.mx/caen-4-1-pulgadas-de-lluvia-en-acuna-rescataron-a-14-personas-atrapadas/

Unfortunately, a 67-year-old man who sold tacos was swept away in his bicycle and drowned. There is one missing person and damage citywide. This poor woman had water up to her waist inside her home.https://www.zocalo.com.mx/tormente-colapsa-a-ciudad-acuna-caen-tres-pulgadas-en-tan-solo-una-hora/

The webpage that masquerades as our newspaper failed to mention the rain though I will give them credit for reporting the overdose death of two Del Rio women and a male who is still alive but in critical condition at the local hospital after having ingested cocaine and fentanyl. There is no doubt that the big city problems are slowly creeping into our community. https://830times.com/news-del-rio-police-and-dea-investigation-ongoing-involving-deadly-narcotics/

Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. When I saw your blog title I thought you were referring to the constant wave of illegals pouring across the border...... Some bringing in Chinese fentanyl.

    1. We get our local channels from San Antonio a city 144 miles from Del Rio. Lately, all their new channels have been covering the deaths of young people. Last week three high school students died due to Fentanyl overdose.

Today, we had another suspected drug overdose death of a 47-year-old male in Val Verde County.

Drug dealers are now putting Fentanyl on everything including marihuana making drugs almost lethal. No mention of it being brought in by undocumented immigrants.

  2. It seems a lot of News Medias have trouble reporting on the truly important things happening to people. We are hearing abought things Hundreds of miles away instead of our city.

    It's about time.

    1. We live in a news desert after our former hundred-year-plus newspaper went out of business. The person that runs a webpage with local news is only publishing things that the local ruling party likes and does not necessarily reflect the views of the rest of the citizenry.

  3. Hope you haven't been wading in your kitchen. We've had a bit but nothing like that. Feast or famine, drought or flood. OK....off we go.

    1. I figured with the A/C having been out for eight days and having opened all the windows in the kitchen during that time that the leaks had aired out. Saturday night I heard a loud sound but figured it was the cats that had knocked some stuff I left outside. Come to find out a big chunk of drywall had fallen in the kitchen.

I remove it Sunday so Monday morning I was almost wading in the kitchen trying to keep up with all the water that was pouring in. Yep, it is feast or famine here :-(

  4. WOW you sure did get some rain. It's sad when some one dies and some have terrible damage. Insurance never pays enough to cover.
Love Auntie Acid she is so right on.

    1. I was right, today I learned we received 3 inches in 3.5 hours. I felt so sorry for that poor man he was elderly yet trying to earn a living while men half his age sit on their tush at home.

I can so relate to today's Aunty Acid too :-)

  5. A couple of days ago (Monday Evening) I had a neighbor of mine who was out walking his dogs told me that it was going to rain because the purple sage just like the one in your photo was blooming, Sure enough it has rained the last two days here in Austin, The sage is still blooming and the forecast here in Austin is for rain the next few days. Anyone oy there heard about this that when the sage is blooming it's going to rain?

    1. I have never heard that Abel. The sage does not bloom until a week after it has rained or at least that has been my observation here in West Texas. We had good rain two weeks ago but with the drought, it took a little longer to bloom.

With the downpour we had yesterday, I am hoping the purple sage on the way to the lake will be in full bloom in a couple of days.
