Where does the time go? / Wonderful rain / Cooler temperatures

No matter what time I go to bed I am usually awake by 5:00 a.m. though I am not up but many times I give up and start my day earlier than planned. Though to be honest I do not make plans either unless we have to go to an out-of-town appointment or for that matter in town...I usually wind up not sleeping at all for fear of oversleeping though on those occasions I set two alarms for added measure. Yet even when I get up early I do not have time to accomplish all the things I need to.  By the time I know it, it's evening and the day is gone. Where does the time go?

The first part of last week we were under a severe thunderstorm warning with large size hail possible. We are no strangers to hail as last April 2020 we were pounded by golf and baseball size hail and people are still getting their roofs repaired from that storm.

Dad's 1982 Ford Fairmont Futura suffered a few scrapes, chipped tail lights, broken side mirrors, and dents. After that storm, I covered it with cardboard, old pillows, and an old bedspread but it was too little too late. I kept it covered during the entire rainy season since it is the only one of the cars that is not in the carport/garage because it can only accommodate three vehicles.

I even bought some strong magnets to hold everything in place for this year's stormy season. With an impending storm, where did I put my magnets? Who knows...it is hell to suffer from CRS 😕

I did manage to find four of them and some magnets that I had in the refrigerator door that turned out to be useless.

Paquito who is not scared of loud noises jumped on top of the car and napped while it was thundering.

It rained a lot on Thursday, April 15th and I was able to fill my rain catchment containers.

I am once again having problems uploading pictures this time I think it is with Google Photos for some reason it wants to send them to a different location on my computer and I do not know how to prevent that from happening.

We have been enjoying some cooler temperatures last night it was downright chilly. I am enjoying them as I am well aware of what awaits us in the near future.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

There are still kind-hearted souls around

Time and time again I notice that if I have a busy day the next day I am dragging, the same held true for yesterday. Since the only thing I bought in Ciudad Acuña on Tuesday was hot sauce I needed to make a grocery run to HEB.

I needed to buy things that are mostly found at the main HEB store. I have found that besides arriving early in the morning (which is not something I like to do) arriving after the lunch hour rush between 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. it is less crowded.

By now most of you know about my issues with insomnia. A couple of months ago I tried Peppermint Tea and found it relaxed me and allowed me to go to sleep with less effort.  I have tried to find it in Mexico and was surprised that the teas they had were imported from the USA or Europe and were not cheap.

Today I found some as well as one that calls itself Sleepytime Herbal Tea.  I did not buy it but need to look into it.

I wrote about the stray cats at HEB on a prior post a couple of years ago. There were at least a dozen or so the last time I spotted them but today there was only one.

There is now a chain link fence and he is in the space that was once a former dealership and that HEB bought and demolished but he can go around the fence and easily eat or drink the food and water kind-hearted souls or perhaps even HEB employees leave for them.

You can tell the food bowls are new and I was so happy to see that someone had left them plenty of water.  That made my day :)

I wanted to make a quick stop at Dollar Tree but the skies looked menacing so I headed home.  Got there just in time to bring the clothes in from the clothesline, feed my own strays and then the skies opened up. With all the rain we have had lately I have no more room in my rain catchment, therefore, could not save anymore.

Good night,  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

NBA Corner

I was so tired I kept on dozing off during the Rockets vs Golden State Warriors game last night that I decided to tape it so I would not miss out on anything important.  This morning I re-watched the second quarter and could not believe the Rockets could not pull off a win with Durant out of the line-up and how few points James Harden, as well as CP3, scored in that interval.

I hate to say this to my Houston real life friends but I think GSW wins in six...sure hope I am wrong!

We end the month with some much needed liquid gold

Woke up to thunder, lightning and strong winds, turned to look at the alarm clock and it was 6:15 a.m. The thunder and lightning were pretty intense so decided to turn off my electric strip which powers the computer, TV, and internet.

I was a little disappointed that I was not hearing the sounds of rain hitting the roof but after 20 minutes I was rewarded as it came down in heavy sheets.  Went to check for leaks in the kitchen and as I looked out the window noticed that two of my rain barrels (garbage cans) had been blown from their designated location because I forgot to weigh them down with gallon milk jugs.

I was not a happy camper as I was missing out on lots of gallons of the precious liquid but I could not go out in an electric storm to retrieve them.  After the lighting ceased I did go out and put them in place and I now have a full rain catchment system.

Of course, there is always a hitch, I had the kitchen door open as I was putting out more 5-gallon buckets when Paquito spotted it and ran inside followed by Otis and Katia who have never been in the house before.

Otis and Paquito were easy to round up but Katia for some reason is super afraid of me though I have no idea why.  Mom was asleep and she is not a fan of pets inside the house not to mention her allergies to pet dander.  Katia finally came out on her own but she took her sweet time doing so.

This evening KSAT12 reported we received 1.02 inches of much-needed rain. Now I do not have to get up early in the morning to water the trees in order to beat the heat...yeah!!!

Tomorrow we will be back in the three digit range so I took the opportunity to go grocery shopping in these cooler temperatures.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Stormy night in San Antonio

We are in drought conditions in much of the State of Texas so I was glad to learn that we would finally be getting the much needed liquid gold.  However, we had doctors appointments in San Antonio and the weather forecast called for severe weather.  If it wasn't because I had already canceled prior appointments due to mother's fall and these are hard to come by went ahead and bit the bullet.

Monday night I had all of three hours of sleep and last night I was hoping to get some shut-eye but between heavy downpours, thunder, lightning and ambulance sirens (we stayed in the Medical Center area) not to mention my anxiety over possible hail pounding my car...which thankfully did not materialize...I barely slept.

We had an early morning appointment so as soon as there was a lull in the storms quickly loaded the car and took off.  We barely got to the doctor's office when once again storms broke out.  The good thing was that the severe weather that hit Uvalde, Hondo, and Castroville earlier this morning was a thing of the past when we headed back home.

I was happy to see that my primitive rain catchment system was full!!!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
