A Visit to Uvalde, Texas

I have been wanting to make a trip to Uvalde, Texas for some time.  Figured I would stop on my way to Houston but alas seven months have passed since I have been home.

Back in Houston I bet there are at least six if not more Walgreens within a five mile radius of my house, so one pretty much takes them for granted.  In Del Rio there are no big name pharmacies and if you want to shop at Walgreens you have to drive 70 miles to Uvalde.  This particular store just opened last year but this was the first time I ever stopped here.

Uvalde has beautiful trees and they go to great lengths to protect them.  My mother has always liked this city and enjoys her visits here as well as I.

They could have knocked down this tree when they made this street
but they opted to save it.

Of course I had to stop at the Derksen Portable Buildings lot http://www.derksenbuildingsusa.com/
Only got to take three pictures when my camera batteries died :-(

They build the Derksen sheds here that are then sold in Del Rio and all over Texas including Terlingua. The inventory in Del Rio is quite thin at the moment and I found it to be that way here as well.  They are selling like hotcakes what with all the oil boom in the area.  Even the mobile home lot was low on inventory and a big sign proclaimed "oil field housing".

The going price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Uvalde was $3.07 a gallon...a penny more than in Del Rio.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  3. Thanks for sharing the link for Derksen. We're contemplating a barn to put behind our garage/shed and the TuffSheds we've looked at are a bit spendy.

We once stayed a few nights in Rockport at an RV park where they had little cabins that weren't much more than one of these portable buildings, so I can easily see how they are offering them as oilfield housing.

    1. I have been looking for a storage shed to place at my mother's house but up until about three years ago TuffSheds were the only game in town and quite pricey.

After Derksen came into the picture I noticed TuffSheds had to lower their prices to stay competitive. Derksen builds good quality buildings and I like that if you decide you no longer need it, you can give it back.
