December 2014 trip to Uvalde

I will have to say that the one good thing about not having had Internet service, is that I was in bed before midnight.  Granted that may be past some people's bedtime but it was early for me.  I did not say I went to sleep but at least I was in bed resting.

Now that I am hooked back up...it's back to my old ways of staying up till 5:00 a.m.  I am not going to complain about how slow the service is but that too factors in to the time it takes me to research and read stuff.  Last night I had to cut myself off at 3:00 a.m. as we had an 11:15 a.m. appointment in Uvalde, Texas a town 70 miles east of here.

We were running late and to make matters worst they were having road work.  Here we were sitting for 12 minutes waiting for nothing.  I did not see any work being done, what the heck was that all about?  Well, if one has to wait...at least I was at the head of the line.

Being a construction zone...even though there was no construction...you still had to go slow or I could face a fine.  Apparently that did not bother the other drivers who quickly passed me up. Then I realized that I better hurry up as well because the Border Patrol check point was just a few miles ahead and the last thing I wanted was another long wait.

All these cars had passed me.  This is the Uvalde check point, if you looked at the future Comstock, Texas check point pictures I posted, that one is going to be considerably bigger than this one.

We did not have the usual two hour wait to see the doctor since he did not come today. Saw his assistant a lady P.A.  I have to mention this because it leads me to question why a health care professional knowing she is working with patients with compromised immune systems, use what seemed like a whole bottle of perfume?  Yes, it was an expensive perfume but it stunk nonetheless.

We had the same thing happen in the waiting room...another lady with a very strong smelling perfume making us gag.  People be considerate of others, not everyone can tolerate these smells.  It reminded me of a lovely co-worker that no one could stand going into her office.  If you did, you came out smelling to her perfume.  If you went to another floor or the break room you...it was obvious she had been there.  OK, I will get off my soap box now.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. thank you thank you thank you! I am so glad I am not the only one who hates people who positively stink of cheap cologne or aftershave. The only thing worse is when they stink like cheap cologne and cigarettes at the same time! None of them have had a sense of smell in years and don't realize how bad they stink! A basin full of warm water will provide sufficient cleaning if a shower is unavailable or you must conserve water. It is not necessary to douse yourself with some dollar store fragrance! thanks for bringing this up. I really hate it when I go into a doctors office with Mrs. Rat and she starts coughing because the nurses all smell like cheap prostitutes! argghhhhh It really is annoying to those of us who live with people who have breathing problems..........

    1. I am so sorry to hear that Mrs. Rat and you have also been subjected to these thoughtless people.

I firmly believe that perfumes, colognes and cigarettes do not have a place in a medical setting. I am sure that many will disagree but then again they do not live with someone with allergies, asthma or breathing problems like we do.

    1. When I worked, I wore perfume but I would like to think that it was very subtle and that I did not offend anyone.

Our measuring stick was that nice co-worker and we all made a promise that if we ever wore our fragrance to her level we would let the other know.

  3. It used to be you could take a shower or wash up and not come away with the stink of the perfume scented soaps. I guess I could go back to the old lye soap. . . Nay, I don't think so. My grandma use to make that stuff.

    1. To date I have yet to be offended by the smell of a scented soap. It is much easier to over spray the perfume than to over wash with soap.

    2. So did mine DD, remember watching her do it when i was little. On TV, the Alaskan show a few weeks ago, showed them making it, and putting in flower petals, stuff to make it smell good.

  4. Strong perfumed deodorant soaps make me gag. I wore perfume when I was younger (wonder how many people I offended), but haven't worn it in years. I don't know anyone who does, in fact. As I get older there are some smells and fragrances I can't detect, and some that I can.

I'm glad you are back online, but I hate to think of you still online until 5 am! What internet service do you have now?

    1. The best compliment I ever got was from a guy I often danced with at my local hang-out. He told me that he hated dancing with women that reeked to perfume. He said "you smell like you just stepped out of the shower and I like that".

I now have an AT &T hotspot but it doesn't matter who the ISP happens to be, it is the physical location of my mother's house and the lack of cell towers in this area that impact the speed I am getting.

  5. I would rather put up with the perfume smell than be around someone that smells like a mules ass.

    1. You have a point there RedEyeMule.

What bothers me is that it is a health care professional and I think she should know better.

  6. Pinche Lakers...ugh...turnovers killed us. Liked the 4th qtr comeback tho. We'll get em next time, Ss!

    1. Pinche Lakers...is right!!!

Why is it that we fall to sub par teams? I think Pop is right...they wanted it more than we did. I also liked the 4th quarter comeback and we might have pulled it off but those turnovers did us in :-(

I am cognizant of the fact that we can't win them all but it sure hurts when you lose to those pinche Lakers....grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

  7. "It is not always the strength of the smell, it is just the smell and how we react to it."

    That is very true.
