Mosquitoes / Dog tie-out cable / Early Voting

With the cooler temperatures, the flies seem to have taken a hike but the mosquitoes have not gotten the memo and are still hanging around.  In particular those inside the house.  My mother is cold nature so the heater has been on since early this month.  I do not think we have ever turned on the heater so early in the season.

Need to wash some sheets and towels but the local laundromats are jammed packed.  I guess people are still behind on their laundry with the past rains.  Mother's clothesline is old and down to one line. If I were to hang anything heavy I am sure it would break.

While rounding up my camping gear ran into a new heavy-duty dog tie-out cable that I had bought when I cared for the stray dogs.  It was the perfect size and I was able to use it to hang a bedspread to dry.

Looks exactly like this one but I bought
mine at Tractor & Supply.

I finally made it to our local County Courthouse to cast my early vote.  I was pleased to see so many people participating in these mid-term elections. Please, fellow Texans and Americans make your voice be heard and go to the polls.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

It was another great game this evening. Unlike the last game, we played against the Lakers, this time we trailed most of the way but made a great comeback.

When did San Antonio have so many Laker fans?  I could not believe all the yellow jerseys and cheering going on...traitors!

  1. Good thinking with the clothes line/dog wire!
I voted already, an absentee ballot... with your "go vote" reminder you could log this post as a public service reminder!

Laker fans? The last year or two there have been a lot of articles & just general talk on people being fed up with the California politics, laws & taxes these days. The talk is Texas was running ads to recruit these folks... I suspect when they moved to Texas they brought their ways with them!

    Have a pleasant week MsBelinda!

    1. Now that you mention it, I do recall a couple of years back Governor Greg Abbott offering incentives to California businesses if they moved to Texas though I do not know if any did.

It would be a public service reminder if I had a large audience. Most of my readers that follow me much like yourself have their own blogs and regularly vote.

Would you believe that my second largest audience are from Europe? Have no idea why they read me or how they found me though I am honored with their readership but obviously they can not vote in our elections.

  2. I have been to Terlingua a couple of times. Like that area and the dry dessert air helps what ails my wife and I. We always felt good when staying there or near there.

    1. Terlingua is not for everyone but it sure fits the bill for me. Glad you and your wife also enjoy it.

  3. Ha! Lots of ex-Californians in SA (and Austin too!) for the reasons Rob cites: crushing taxes, reckless overspending plus absurd job-killing laws & housing restrictions passed by clueless municipalities & the State Assembly in Sacramento are pushing the middle classes out of the state. Unless you're very rich (Silicon Valley), very poor or working for local, state or fed government, surviving in California is getting pretty tough these days.

But I read that American Airlines is starting non-stop service next week between Dallas to Del Rio. So maybe you should also prepare for the onslaught of Mavs jerseys (Boo!Hiss!) closer to home. ;-)

    1. It is not the first time American Airlines starts non-stop service from Del Rio they also had it for a time to and from Houston. The City of Del Rio along with Federal and State grants help subsidize it but it always goes under. We do not have the number of travelers to make it profitable.

  4. As long as I have been going to SPURS games, the T-shirt fans show up for the Laker games. Same for the Rockets.

Happy to beat LeBum twice in a week! Pinche Lakers. Rajon Rondo and Stephenson think they are thugs.

We'll have played them 4 times before the end of December.

    Go SPURS GO!

    1. I have never been to a Spurs game but even the announcers commented on the number of yellow jerseys in attendance.

I have seen the Rocket jersey's but mostly in playoff games after all they are only three hours down the road.

I am wondering how Lebron and Stephenson get along now that they play for the same team. I am happy for both wins.

  5. California mails out booklets with info on the candidates and issues last month, and now I have the ballot on hand which I will fill out and drop off or mail in. I still have a few items to vote on and then I can submit my ballot. There is no excuse for not voting and it impacts every American.

    1. I wish Texas would do the same by mailing out booklets but probably knows that most of them would end up in the trash. Texas is not a red, blue or purple state...we are a NON-Voting State and that is very sad. The tide is turning and hopefully we can remedy that in these mid-term elections.

    2. It took 3 trips for me to vote - once was last week but was so crowded it too me 15 minutes to circle the parking lot that had no spaces open just to get out. The next night I went at 7:15 but it was closed (internet said voting 8-8) but Sunday was the key - in and out in less than 10 minutes. I voted for Pop. IPIT.

    3. I admire your tenacity Andy!

It is great that people are turning out in record numbers. I am however bothered about the fact that voting machines are changing Beto's votes and giving them to Ted Cruz. It really really upset me...who are we supposed to blame...the Russians?

The only thing about small towns is that we use good old fashion paper ballots.

    4. I am not so sure about the voting machines changing the votes - this same rumor occurred in the 2016 presidential election (on both sides). I heard about it then and am hearing about it now but reading it is unfounded. They also mentioned it on TV saying it is totally untrue. The people complaining about it were confused how to use the machines. If I weren't so smart I might have a hard time figuring it out too! (grin)

    5. I saw this news story in three different San Antonio stations not disavowing it but warning voters to carefully check their selections before submitting their final vote. In particular if you are a straight party voter which I am not.

There wasn't that much online but perhaps two or three articles. Today there are many more debunking it which is good for put the voters at ease.

  6. Mailed my ballot last week. Now for the voting day to come and all these abusive political adds to stop. Some of these candidates are down right awful people and lie like crazy. Yes it's time for some big changes.

That dog runner worked out perfect for you.

    1. I too am sick and tired of all the lies spued on political ads. They take one thing a candidate says and blow it out of proportion without any regard for "the truth".

      Thank you for voting.

  7. I had to take my ballot and go to the internet to see who was running & what the all the other issues were about...
A mailing about the election issues & people was always a good thing...

    1. I had to go online and do the same thing Rob. I agree a mailing with election issues and candidates stand on them would be very beneficial for the electorate...good for California!
