Drove into town to pick up our mail and run some errands. It had been a while since I had rewarded myself so I stopped for a late lunch at Dairy Queen and enjoyed some steak fingers, fries, and some cold unsweetened iced tea. Thought that would be sufficient but kept on seeing people coming in and enjoying an ice cream cone...so if I had already cheated, might as well cheat all the way...therefore proceeded to purchase one as well 😋
Stopped by the $1.25 Dollar Tree and scored big! The last time I was able to buy buttered popcorn was back in December 2021.
In case you are wondering...NO...I did not hoard all the popcorn...left plenty for others though I was tempted to buy some more.
Noticed that in their frozen food section they now carry items selling for $1.25, $3.00, $4.00, and $5.00
In their can food aisle, some items are selling for less than $1.25 but I can not bring myself to buy Vienna Sausages. It brings back memories of an individual we dislike that ate them straight out of the can...yuck!!! 😝😝
We had clouds until noon so we only got to 100 degrees this afternoon but temperatures are forecasted to be higher tomorrow as well as this weekend. It is currently a little after 1:00 a.m. and it is 89 degrees.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
Aunty Acid
We often just grab a quick bite rather then going home to eat before continuing our shopping. We all have to reward ourselves occasionally and Ice Cream is a good way to do that.
ReplyDeleteWith the rising food prices you have to be creative on what you buy.
Stay Safe and Enjoy the cooler temperature.
It's about time.
I agree we need to reward ourselves occasionally. As a Texan, I am glad we have HEB who through the Pandemic and now as we navigate this inflationary period has done its best to keep prices low for its customers.
DeleteI hope you had a dip cone. Though in the summer you really have to eat them fast if you are driving. (I hope I won't be struck off your list of acceptable correspondents. I have a secret, until now, vice of sometimes having vienna sausages right out of the can. First time that I can remember them is when my mother had to go out of town, and my father, no cook, provided fritoes and vienna sausages for a meal or two. We actually had a good time. Store bought hamburgers took care of the other meals, and they weren't many because my mother wasn't gone long. )
ReplyDeleteIt was not a dip cone because the coupon I had was for a soft cone for $1.00...I was not driving I ate inside Dairy Queen.
DeleteHad to laugh at your comment...No, I will not strike you off my list of "acceptable correspondents" because of your affinity for eating Vienna sausages right out of the can...jajajaja! :D
What grossed us out was the way this individual who always had a cigarette hanging off the side of their mouth would remove it and hold it on one hand as they used the other hand to stuff Vienna sausages onto their toothless pie hole as they spoke and attempted to chew at the same time...it was a stomach-turning spectacle!!!
My stomach is churning as I read the last paragraph. I don't smoke while I eat. And so far, thanks to modern dentistry, I have a goodly number of teeth. Glad I won't be blackballed.
DeleteLol, JudithK :-)
DeleteI don't know if you watch Bob Wells but he did a thing on food storage, I don't agree with buying those powdered foods and boy are they expensive. But I have been slowly buying extra canned or foil pkg foods. I don't like canned veggies but a few cans might be a good idea. The biggest price increase is coffee and I'm not happy about that,
ReplyDeleteAs for this horrible heat! we hit 109 today and I had to pick up meds and they didn't open until 8am which at that time was 89. Did stop at the Family Dollar to finally pick up wind shield fluid and a small fan to sit next to my chair. I have been going to Walmart at 6:15 am and it was pretty well packed already. I'm going to try and get there that early Monday to see about the rechargeable fans so incase of a black out I will at least have that.
Sounds like you had a nice treat today.
I subscribe to Bob Wells channel, but I have not had the chance to view the video you are referring to yet. Our refrigerator freezer is not very big, and thanks to the ham and turkey I bought two years ago, there isn't much room for frozen vegetables or much else.
DeleteI bought a lot of canned vegetables that I add to our soups and lentils when they had a sale this past Thanksgiving and Christmas.
109 degrees is way too hot. I am glad you got your errands out of the way before the severe heat of the day. I went back to Ollie's to purchase the fans you can run off an USB cable, but they had sold out of them.
My trip to Dairy Queen was Thursday, and it was so worth it.
Storing frozen food isn't really what I meant lol storing packaged foods for storing in a cabinet or a safe area. Your canned goods is a good long lasting food for storing. I'm not going to over do it but at least have enough for at least a month.
DeleteI finally got to see Bob Wells' video and the big bucket of food that can last up to 30 years. I had seen them being mentioned on another prepper's YouTube channel.
DeleteThe individual cans that are made by Mormons do seem high and I do not much care for pancakes or peanut butter. The big bucket seems like a better deal and I suppose it is better than starving to death.
I went to HEB today and noticed that Juanita's Hot and Spicy Menudo was on sale for $1.59. That is 50% off. Regular Price is $3.18, Bought every can they had. I'll go back on Monday and buy more if they have restocked.
ReplyDeleteHi Abel! Just read your comment on my current post but I had not seen this one. A lot of us bloggers get hit with Spam, mostly I believe from foreign countries so many of us have put our blog's comments to go to "moderation" so we can approve them before they get posted and clamp down on these suckers.
DeleteIn my HEB...Juanita's Hot and Spicy Menudo...as of yesterday was still selling for $4.58 a can. If it goes down to $1.59...I would buy all their stock and would not care if they called me a "hoarder" :-D
The only menudo they had discounted was Chata's and they only had one can for $1.73 but I passed because I prefer Juanita's as I do not have to doctor it up...yes, I am lazy!
Once again, please excuse me for not having checked my comments in moderation as I value each and every one of them. Thank you for taking the time to comment, it is appreciated!
