Getting ready for a hard freeze

We have been experiencing strong winds all-day but thankfully they subsided late this afternoon. Yesterday I picked up and put away any objects that might become projectiles saving myself the trouble of having to do it today.

I had every intention of driving into town and picking up more groceries at Dollar Tree.  I do not know about you but I am very worried about the Coronavirus and its ramifications.  If you watched the news you probably saw how unprepared this administration is to handle this pandemic.

I am no fan of John Kennedy - Republican US Senator from Louisiana (no relation to the late great JFK) but he sure gave a dress down to someone (whose name I did not catch)  Chad Wolf - Acting Chief of DHS who could NOT answer any type of questions regarding this virus including if the government had enough masks in storage for all our citizens.

I suppose I have it easier than most as I am retired and do not have to go to work but I worry about those who do.  If you can not go to work how are you going to pay your mortgage or rent?  How are you going to feed and clothe your family?  Lots of questions that need to be addressed.

We had a low of 43 a high of 79 with a real feel of 68 and in the shade of 65 degrees. Bundle up fellow Texans...it is going to be a COLD night!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. I could not understand how the Deputy Chief of Homeland Security should be in charge of dealing with the Coronavirus. I would have thought that someone from the Health Organization would be dealing with it.
Our landscape is once again turning White.
Be Safe and Enjoy the warmer temperatures.

    It's about time.

    1. No one can understand why Chad Wolf the Acting Chief of the Department of Homeland Security would be in charge instead of the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention).

Perhaps they can when you delve into the fact that the prior Administration who had to confront the Ebola epidemic had an Ebola Czar that reported directly to President Obama. As with anything the prior Administration did that position was sidelined and in 2018 dismantled by the current administration.

      Enjoy the snow.

  2. I’m looking at the NOAA National Weather Service (NWS) current temperatures.

    At 6:53 AM:
    26 F at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (KAUS)
31 F at Del Rio, Del Rio International Airport (KDRT)

Way too cold for me and from reading some of your posts, way too cold for you too.
I still need to write Part 2 to tell you my crazy plans for camping fuel to make you look normal.

    1. KSAT-12 in San Antonio agrees with the 28-degree minimum you reference as our low for this morning. Too darn cold for me, I am not looking forward to receiving the electric bill this month.

  4. I was appalled at the entire performance of trump and his minions. The stock market is tanking and the virus is mutating at an alarming rate...but guess what? They announced tonight on Montana Public Radio that the US has a test now to diagnose this disease. Just us. And overnight! Wow! And there will be a free unicorn for every pot. Everything under control. Mike Pence couldn't find his ass with both hands but he will lead us to a cure by lunch tomorrow. I feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone.
Please watch Dr John Campbell on YouTube. Almost the only site for a straight answer and twice daily updates. I have been filling in the gaps on my prepping as best I can and urge everyone to do the same.

    1. Yes, to everything you say. I love to watch Dr. Campbell as he presents info in such a straightforward manner. I hope and pray we get through this terrible time and survive. I just wish we had a leader who wasn't such an idiot.

    2. I agree with all the points both of you brought forth. The only consolation is that this virus does not discriminate and could care less if you are a Democrat or a Republican.

I know many of Trump's followers know his propensity to lie about things big and small and overlook it. However, I believe that when the welfare of their family is on the line they too will change their tune and demand accurate information and that someone like a doctor, not Mike Pence be in charge.

  5. I just heard Merle Haggard's song "Rainbow Stew" and started laughing. Could be hysterics? Jajaja Wow! The perfect song for this ...ahh...mess.

  6. I've been enjoying a Canadian, Bria Skonberg, in her song "Blackout." Lyrics include "over and over, over exposure, are wearing me down. So I blackout, get off the grid." It sounds like a song to a lover, but sometimes not. "Heroes dying, women crying..." and "I'm done with your face." That last bit is the way I feel about Trump. She's on youtube. And she plays a very good trumpet and has a great band.

    1. I went to this link to hear the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMiiXog6jpw

but I never heard her sing the lyrics you reference. She is definitively a talented trumpet player with an equally talented band.
