It was a beautiful sunny but cold day

Once again I was wide awake by 5:00 a.m. but forced myself to stay in bed until 8:00 a.m. when the boys started meowing by my window probably to shame me into feeding them. They have me well trained!

It was cold and I could see Mr. Joe's roof had ice on it that was slowly melting. Can you believe it is already February?  I have a feeling this year is going to fly by just like last year. Before you know it March will be here and I will no longer be able to sneak in a trip to Terlingua well if I want to use a tent that is.

I have been getting e-mails from Basecamp Terlingua who has some original casitas for rent.  Has anyone stayed in one of them before?  https://www.basecampterlingua.com/

They would make for a great weekend retreat but I would probably be tempted not to leave my room. If anyone decides to stay there and they ask you how you heard about them...tell them it was through my blog...maybe they would reward me with a free one night's stayNot likely but I can always dream, can't I?

Is anyone planning to attend a Super Bowl party tomorrow?  I do not know if I will even watch except for perhaps the half time show.  I remember many moons ago Kroger's would offer a 10 percent discount if you shopped during this event. I loved it very few people mainly women and elderly customers.

I am happy my Spurs won tonight...I would be even happier if I could have a cold one to celebrate :(

We had a low of 41 and a high of 75 degrees today.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. There are groups of people that get together at Quartzsite yearly and many are Fulltimers that live in Casitas. Other groups travel around the country with them and they don't require large tow vehicles.

    1. It wasn't until I started following vandwellers vlogs on YouTube and George & Suzie's and your blog that I found out how many people actually hangout at Quartzsite during the winter months.

This is the first time I hear that some full-timers live in Casitas and then travel the country in smaller tow vehicles. That is so cool will have to look into following some of their blogs.

      Thanks for enlighting me.

  2. (in a previous comment) MsB wrote: I do not have health insurance and have to go to Mexico for my medical and dental needs.

Fear not – with the rollout of the new health insurance exchanges, or marketplaces, under the Affordable Care Act, you now have guaranteed access to health insurance, regardless of health conditions or being unemployed, and may even be eligible for government tax credits to help afford the cost of insurance.

    I found that information here:

    1. Back in the day I wrote several blogs on the Affordable Care Act better known as Obama Care. Got a lot of input from my readers, I went to symposiums and my accountant at the time had the last word...I did not qualify for tax credits...without those, it would have been cost prohibited for me to purchase into a plan.

I want to thank you though for taking the time to research it.

    1. If anyone knows Terlingua and its people it's you Frann. I will never forget how you introduced me to almost all the people at the cemetery during El Día de los Muertos.

  4. I opened the link and someone is confused about the Casita travel trailers and Casita Rooms and cottages. These places are really beautiful but the pop ups make it hard to read about them. Bet they aren't cheap. Casita travel trailer aren't cheap either and hold there price. I wanted one and looked at some used ones, in my price range they needed full restoration

    1. I am sorry you can not see the casitas. I just clicked on the link...no pop-ups are showing up on my end...is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, they are pricey the Teepees are cheaper but I would love to stay at Casa Piedra that runs $199.00 per night.

I do not know if you ever read blogger Ben from Texas. He had one built to specification but unfortunately died suddenly and never even got to take it out on its maiden voyage. I have often wondered what became of his Casita.

    2. I don't have an ad-blocker (or pop-up blocker) and I only received one pop-up. It was just a simple request to get on their mailing list and stated: Sign up for News about Basecamp and the Big Bend. There was some more text and then a field to input your email address if you wanted to receive their news. It had a very large "X" in the upper right hand corner of that request if you wanted to close it. I closed it and was then able to easily view the page. That was the only pop-up I received.

  5. I've only been through Quartzite in the off seaon, and stopped by to check out some of the stores. I guess you would have to be there during the high season to know if you would like it. I've never been crazy about the desert environment.

    1. I would only like to visit Quartzsite to see what the allure is. I would never trade Terlingua or my dream of one day calling it home.

  6. Being totally "Off the Grid" with no real schedule of things to do is part of the allure and making friends from all over North America is another.

    1. Those are two good allures, Rick, not to mention that for people from cold climates such as yourself spending winter in a warm environment may be the best one yet.

Thank you for the links to those blogs will check them out soon.

    1. Dang...that is a GREAT price! We have not gone under the two-dollar threshold yet. The lowest price I saw today was $2.049 a gallon for unleaded gasoline.
