Rain / More Covid-19 cases / National Grandparents Day

It was a gray and rainy day and it rained non-stop for almost an hour. Once again the backyard was a small lake. The leak in the kitchen is getting worst thank goodness for horse pine pellets they are true lifesavers. There is money in the budget to get it fixed but I do not know anyone I would trust to do it especially not in the middle of a pandemic.

The Zócalo (Ciudad Acuña's newspaper) online edition reported that of the 289 COVID-19 tests performed last week...51 came back positiveI was also reading where there were massive crowds at the Amistad National Recreational Area during the Labor Day weekend as they once again opened the area up during the weekend. That can only mean more cases in the pipeline 😟

Spent a great part of the afternoon and early evening watching shows I had taped but had not had the opportunity to see. I do not know why I even tape "Going RVing",  I think I have watched every show at least a couple of times...thank goodness I suffer from CRS and can not remember what unit they picked out.

My best friend and her boyfriend have gotten their money's worth with theirs and are considering upgrading to a bigger unit preferably one that they do not have to tow with their truck.

Today was National Grandparents Day and while I am not a grandma...I found an applicable Aunty Acid to commemorate the occasion for those who are.

I am trying out the new Blogger interface where nothing is familiar. The only thing I like is the emojis

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Aunty Acid Saying of the Day

  1. With all that Rain your temperatures should be coming down.
Finding a good Handyman to fix your roof will keep your costs down. Most News Papers advertise people willing to work in them or check the Bulletin Boards in the local Laundromats.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. The temperatures are coming down some thanks to the rains and the cloud cover. We will be in the high 80's and low 90's which certainly beats the triple-digits.

  2. I typed in handyman services in my area and thats how I found this guy, one never showed up and the other guy was just not making me comfortable. I got a really good price and they will be out on the 21st. And the ones that advertise usually have a lic., ins and are bonded. Hope you can find someone that way with a really good price.

    1. I am glad to hear that you found someone to work on your house. I know you have wanted to do that for some time as I have.

I am a little leery about hiring someone at this time because of the Coronavirus. In Houston, I used Angie's List or Home Advisor so I could read the reviews but they do not offer many if any trades for this area.

    2. Just request they wear a mask that's what I did after someown showed up without one.

  3. Howdy there MsB. I read something in your blog today that reminded me of something that I have been considering telling you but I keep putting it off because I don’t know how you will take it. I am telling you this because I like you, not because I want to offend you or degrade you. Really.

I have noticed that when you use two particular words, I think you are using them incorrectly. You might be doing it intentionally (slang or colloquial use) or you might be doing it by sound (internal auditory in your head). It doesn’t bother me but I thought you might want to know you are doing it if you are not doing it intentionally.

[NOTE: I am not a grammar or language expert so I might be wrong but it doesn’t “sound” (seem) like the correct word when I read it.]

I think you sometimes, incorrectly, use the word “worst” instead of “worse”.
I think you sometimes, incorrectly, use the word “curve” instead of “curb”.

I think it is “curbside” pickup instead of “curve side” pickup.
This is a copy and paste off of the H-E-B website: Select a Curbside store

Those are the only two words that stand out as sounding “funny” when I read your blog.

Now, to make it clear that I wrote this as help and not to offend you. Recently you did not blog for a long period of time (a week or so) and some people wrote to say they missed your blog. I agree with them, I read it every day so, if you don’t blog, I don’t know if the cats are getting fed or if it is raining there. I think you said that you weren’t sure you had anything interesting to say during that time period. The dance halls are closed and we have not been going camping so reading your blog is one of the highlights of my day!

I hope you take this in the friendly spirit that it was meant because I do enjoy reading your blog.

    1. Flyingdj - in these difficult and trying times we are living in as a nation, I find it odd that the thing that bothers you the most is my use or misuse of two words in our vast English language.

I am not a published author, I am not an English major...I am just a regular gal documenting my life via this blog that I call...my Cyber Journal. In the nine years since I started it, you are the first individual to complain about my grammar usage.

I have commented on many occasions that I am not a good speller and I make no apologies for it. You can take it or leave it...I do not force anyone to read my blog.

  4. Wow! Just read the above comment and can barely believe someone would be so condescending and rude. This is not cool. This is an extremely honest and joyful blog from someone I consider to be my friend. So take a flying..

    1. I feel the same way you do, Penelope. It was a long comment and I found it insulting and condescending, whether the writer intended it to be or not.

    2. I have often wondered how Ms Belinda finds a kind and thoughtful reply to his patronizing comments. And his prompting her when to post. Just unbelievably rude mansplaining.

    4. What friggin nerve Mr. Grammer Police! If they don't like it move on. His post go on an on all the time and I give you credit for putting up with it. I have put someone in their place more than once but I guess they don't come back and read the answers. You know who I'm mean I'm sure.

    5. JO - I try to be as respectful as I can to all the readers that leave comments on this blog. But when people bring up petty stuff out of nowhere that is when the kitty claws come out.

I know who you are talking about and somehow I think they do come back and read the comments but pretend they don't.

    6. I thought of a lot of things to say when I read his comment, but mostly, I got sad. This is someone who doesn't have a clue. Except about grammar. Sad.

    7. P.S. It is nice that he says reading your blog is one of the highlights of his day. So I do think he has good intentions. Just.....

  5. Geez. You got more rain. We've had a tad. But today started another delicious round of weather. (I can tell, because when I open the freezer fog does not boil around. So much lower humidity. Ha.)
Happy kitties were nice to see
I just figured your positivity rate. (number of positives divided by number of tests) and it's not tooo bad. About like ours here. 17%. Not good. But a while back SA had 25%. Of course, we were at 10% August 1, so the trend is not good. Well we'll see. All I know is to just keep laying low and washing my hands, and trying to remember that the likelihood of infection for a person is time X distance. So longer time and closer equals greater likelihood. Short time and greater distance, yea. Hang in there.

    1. More rain and more expected for Thursday and Friday. I tell myself at least it is making a dent in the drought.

Cats do not usually like water but my boys and Katie are enjoying this wet weather...go figure. I have no other choice but to lay low as I am high risk and this virus is going to be with us for a while.

  6. PS. I've read many comments by bloggers on how hard it is to adjust with the new version. You ARE NOT ALONE. Yours still looks good, no matter how much trouble it's been.

    1. I do not know why Blogger would try to fix something that is not broken. I have given them negative feedback as have many other bloggers from reading their comments.

I think we will be stuck with this new version whether we like it or not. It takes too much time to make a post even longer if pictures are involved.

  7. Belinda...I am so jealous of your rain. We aren't very near any fires but are under a red flag warning and the air quality from all the smoke is really bad.
My heart goes out to all the people of Ca, Or, and Wa. Just tragic. And tRump giving forestry advice...just unbelievable callousness and stupidity.
Hope you will enjoy a cold frosty one and have a great evening.
As a single woman I am often the victim of "helpful advice as to how to manage my life". I used to try to explain how much I appreciated their thoughts but now realize how hostile it is to give unasked for advice.

    1. Trump visited CA a couple of years ago and he commented that we need to sweep the forest floors to keep the pine needles, leaves etc., from piling up and being fuel for a fire. I still laugh out loud when I think of it.

    2. The rains have been nice but sometimes you can get too much of a good thing. Though I am not complaining when I think of all the people in Hurricane Sally's path whose strength is now a Category 2 and that will be leaving torrential downpours.

Wish I could have a cold frosty one but I am taking too many medications at this time. With my CRS I do not recall if I have mentioned that my doctor did not like my BP readings and added another medication making it 3 BP meds I am currently taking on top of all the others.

  8. Penelope - I have to agree with your take regarding his forestry advice...where the hell does he get this from...Fox News?

The man has no respect for science though Governor Gavin Newsom and a California's Forest Management expert gave an impassioned speech, all he did was dismiss it and say "science is wrong"...incredible!

    1. CORRECTION - I just finished watching Don Lemon on CNN and the forest expert I referenced was Wade Crowfoot who is California Secretary of Natural Resources.
