After the horrible debacle, all Americans got to witness last night that was passed off as the first presidential debate I had a hell of a time going to sleep. Stayed up until around 5:30 a.m. watching cable news until I finally fell asleep.
After only three hours of sleep, I got up to take care of my morning chores. I was debating what to eat for breakfast when the lights went out at 9:42 a.m. Great, I thought...it was in the mid-'60s by then...so I do not think many people had their A/C on.
Our power outages are a common occurrence in our area that can last for a couple of minutes, a couple of hours, or even a day. I, therefore, did not want to open the refrigerator to rummage around it. Decided to go outside and use my rain catchment stash to water the trees I have been neglecting.
As I was doing that more of the neighbors were coming out of their homes to tackle their yard and/or to visit among themselves...I choose to stay in my backyard and avoided them. I saw a lot of trucks from the power company drive by and finally, at 11:09 a.m. the lights came back on after being out for 1 hour and 26 minutes.
Later on in the afternoon, I got an e-mail letting me know that the face shields I ordered online were ready to be picked up at Walmart...so off to Walmart I went. I needed to pick up some more salads and after not having any beer around to drown out the sour taste in my mouth after what I had to endure last night I made sure to remedy that.
What was my surprise when I passed by the meat and seafood section to see all those areas draped off and or lined with large tarps. When I asked an employee about it, I was told that their power had gone out for an hour and a half...so I suppose it was a city-wide event?
Look at that gas price! I paid $2.89 today in Washington state, saw $2.99 at a couple of places and 3.08 at a little station out of the way.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I need readers like you to remind me how lucky I am to live in Texas an oil-producing state.
DeleteLast Night different experts were saying the scene is being set up for a Monarchy take over.
ReplyDeleteDealing with Power Outages is a mater of using common sense which not all people have.
Setting up tarps over the Coolers is a wise idea as it helps keep the products from spoiling.
Our Gasoline is sold by the Litre. It takes 3.875 Litres to make a US Gallon. We are presently at 99.9 cents a Litre. Your prices make us very jealous.
Be Safe and Enjoy the cooler temperatures.
It's about time.
I was in Walmart a couple of weeks back when there was a power outage as well. Their back-up power came on in no time though it took a while for the registers to boot up again. That is why I was surprised everything was covered...did their back-up system not work?
DeleteIn the desert, we elevate our coolers, cover them with old sleeping bags, and then drape them with tarps to keep our food and drinks cold.
If it will help any just think when you are filling your tank that the price you are paying also subsidizes your medical system. I would gladly pay two to three times the price I currently pay for gasoline to be able to have free medical insurance.
Your temperatures are just about perfect. We have a week ahead with daytime temps reaching the 100 mark, and after that it looks like we will be having some cooler weather. (Cool by California standards).
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the debate but saw all the commentaries about it later, plus a couple of snatches from the most outrageous parts of it. I've been wondering why he just doesn't give up and abscond to someplace like Russia or Israel, but then when you realize he has no money, you know Russia or Israel wouldn't want to support him. The scariest part is that he still has some supporters and they are nut-cases.
Gypsy, I was just thinking about you after hearing all the earthquakes your state has been having. Did that affect the area in which you live?
DeleteBe glad you did not watch such a spectacle. He does not give up because his ego will not let him but most importantly because he knows he will go to jail.
Those power outages are just awful. We seldom have them here, but phone and internet problems happen a lot.
ReplyDeleteThere is unleaded here for $2.25 but my hotrod truck uses the gas that is $2.45. Fun to drive, but you can't afford to go far. Lol
I forced myself to listen to the "debate" until the very end. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever witnessed. Triggered my PTSD and I was ill all the next day. I saw some of the clips yesterday, and it was like seeing Satan. The guy is the antichrist. We are all in deep caca.
And now Texas is making every effort to prevent voting.
As I have stated before, the life we once had is over. This new reality will test us all. I keep having the feeling that the outcome of the election has already been decided and we are all being played for suckers.
I thought about you during the"debate". I hope you stay safe, my friend, and better stock up on that beer.
Your gasoline prices are not so bad considering how far away you live.
DeleteYou are only the second blogger that I know watched it. In my personal circle of friends, nobody did. I do not know what that says about me? Am I a glutton for punishment? Don't worry I am well stocked on adult beverages now.
Our ruby red governor gave a one day notice to the three largest counties in Texas which are home to Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio...declaring that as of tomorrow there would only have ONE drop off box for ballots. This in the middle of a pandemic and only to kiss the Liar-in-Chief's ass.
I can not believe how he is being aided by all these Republican governors. How can they be trying to suppress the vote? This is not Russia or Venezuela!
Rachel Maddow had a gentleman from I believe Pennsylvania this evening that stood up to an almost clan-like Republican committee and gave them a piece of his mind.
In my opinion, this will be decided in the Supreme Court so we know how this is going to end. Then all hell will break loose and I will be on a flight to Uruguay.
Karma made an appearance tonight as it was announced that Hope Hicks (a close aid to the administration) tested positive for the Coronavirus and now both he and his wife are sheltering in place.
Pee Ess: On the bright side, I do think he may have brought Republican votes to Biden. Lol
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteI didn't watch that crap I knew it would be a clown show. I read about it the next day and I was right the orange clown was at his worst. What a moron.
ReplyDeleteWe also are at 102 for the next few days. When will this end?
You are a wise lady JO, I should have followed your example. I think we all knew how this was going to turn out but I had to see the train wreck with my own eyes.
DeleteI watched it on CNN and Dana Bash one of their correspondents summarized it better than any other journalists...it was a "Shit Show".
It is 12:10 a.m. CDT and just as I suspected it has just been announced that Trump and the First Lady have both tested positive for Coronavirus and are going to Quarantine.
ReplyDeleteIf you are reading this and you do not have cable you can go to CNN.com look at the top upper right that says LIVE TV with a red light flashing and you can watch Don Lemon giving this Breaking News for free.
ReplyDeleteI just woke up and checked your blog so got the GREAT NEWS that Dumpty and Melania tested positive! Jajaja YIPPEE
ReplyDeleteI hope he has the absolute worst case in history, has to be intubated and suffers a lonnnng time. I hope he lives long enough to see his "empire" in the ditch and has to face all his legal battles. Also hope Barr is next. Sorry, I am just giddy with joy!
I find it ironic how he could have become infected by the "Democratic Hoax" when he and his family are the most protected Americans in the country.
DeleteHe had been told that Hope Hicks had tested positive since early Thursday morning and even with this information he choose to attend a private fundraiser in his New Jersey golf club instead of self-isolating to protect not only himself, other people in his inner circle, not to mention the at least 100 attendees that were present at this event.
I am a firm believer in KARMA, I do not wish anything bad for him, his family, or other innocent people that acquired this virus through no fault of their own. Sooner or later Karma serves us what we deserve.
Or....they are all under house arrest to prevent any escape attempts they might be planning due to the NEXT bombshell breaking news carefully planned just before the election. One by one, they will have to "quarantine". Ivanka, Jared, Don Jr...etc.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think?
They interrupted a few minutes ago the regular programming to announce that Trump is going to spend a few days at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
DeleteWhen no one in the West Wing uses masks and a high-level adviser like Hope Hicks has access to the President and Vice-President you know there are going to be more people infected soon.
I worry that this might become a national security crisis and bad actors such as Iran, China, and Russia may try to take advantage of this vulnerable situation.
Maybe now his fervent followers will think twice and reconsider wearing a mask...though I am not hopeful.
Karma doesn't always work in THIS life.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it all has to do with your religious beliefs or in my case lack of them.
DeleteI don't have any.
DeleteThen I do not understand your comment.
