We set a new record high for this day...

That is right friends, we set a new record high for this day...you will never believe it...we had a high of 65 degrees!!!  No, I am not pulling your leg :D

I do not recall ever while living in Texas to have a cold front hit us so early in the year and especially NOT during the summer. The first cold front always arrives when I am getting ready to go to Terlingua, once I get there or on the way back and that takes place in late October to early November.

We have also had rains that have left the yard a soggy mess...

We have had ponding issues in the backyard and all my rain catchments containers are completely full.

I have been wearing a sweatshirt and a jacket all day. It feels wonderful to be able to turn off the air conditioner and crack open a window.

Hope everyone is doing well in particular those bloggers that live in states that are currently experiencing wildfires.

Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

    1. I have learned so much by following your and other Canadian blogs. Before that, I always thought you were cold or at least cool year around.

While we needed the rain in this parched part of Texas these past two days we got a bit much and soon I will have a crop of fresh weeds to contend with :-(

  2. Wow. I just checked, it's 9:30AM and yall are at 60F! We are at 76 on the other side of the state which I was pretty happy about - it's so nice to be able to drink coffee outside when it's not a sauna - but I'm sooooo jealous yall can wear long sleeves in September! Hopefully your cold front will drift over to us fully intact before it dissipates further east or south.

    1. Can you believe it? Right now it is 1:03 p.m. and it is still 68 degrees. I am certainly enjoying it as it will not last long.

Glad you were able to have a cup of coffee outside but per the weather guys, it is not expected to make it to your corner of Texas.

  3. We are up in Tahuya Washington, it was warm yesterday (80s) and today the smoke from the fires is arriving... well that was the guess yesterday. We'll see...
    9/11 again.....

    1. I see the weather up your way is cool as well but the air quality understandably very unhealthy per Accuweather. Hopefully, the smoke from the fires will be kept to a minimum.

Yes, 9/11 is here again...this year commemorated a bit different from prior ones but still honoring our heroes and all the innocent who perished.

  4. So glad you had a bit of relief from the hot weather and some rain. It looks like the rain could turn that cat perch tree into a cat raft.
Our temps have climbed back up to the low eighties. The two nights of freezing weather killed most of my "farm" but looks like one Roma tomato plant is still alive. Barely.
I have been following the news about the fires in Ca, Or, and As. Just heartbreaking. There are quite a few here in Montana, as well. Not a peep about them, nor the on going tragedy in Louisiana from tRump. Barely a mention on the news. No Red Cross help..no Fema help. National Guard has not been sent in any numbers to help. Where will all those people live? You know insurance won't pay. Just heartbreaking.
Stay well and safe, my friend, and count your blessings.

    1. I was so happy for the rain but when it was raining at intervals and slowly allowing it to be absorbed. Wednesday night all hell broke loose and the morning light showed what had taken place.

One thing for sure I have more rain catchment water than I know what to do with. One plus is that I will hopefully not have to water the trees for a couple of days.

With our fast-moving news cycle, things that happened just a few days or weeks ago seem to have taken place months ago. I am surprised FEMA is no longer in Louisiana...they usually stay for the long haul.

Usually, after hurricane events, they bring in the Fema trailers for use as a temporary shelter. I know they did in Houston after Hurricane Ike.

I know how proud you were of your "farm" I am sorry to hear the freezing weather took its toll. Hopefully, your Roma tomato plant will survive.

You take care and be vigilant in case a fire comes too close for comfort.

  5. You certainly are getting much needed rain but not that much all at once. The ground is so dry it can't suck up the water fast enough. But I know you are enjoying the nice cool weather.

Even though we have had wonderfull temps in the high 80's the smoke from the fires in CA. and Oregon have reached us. It has made breathing really hard and then had a fire a couple of blocks away to add to the mess. So now shut back up in the house with the A/C back on which I hadn't had to run for a couple of days.

    1. Unfortunately JO, Wednesday night (Thursday morning) we got a lot of rain and now all I have to look forward to is more weeds. The cool front brought with it some wonderful temperatures but they are back on the rise.

I just checked and it is 89 degrees outside but inside the house, it does not feel as hot. Hopefully, I can get by another day without having to turn on the A/C.

I certainly hope that they can put out the wildfires this is oh so sad for the people who have lost their lives and their loved ones who have been left behind with absolutely nothing.

  6. Well, yes, it was an early surprise, and I love it. Even today (Saturday) I was able to leave the doors and windows open all day. For a day and a night I couldn't, because it was not even 60 degrees. And I live only 300 or so miles NE of you. Maybe less. But still, a wonderful thing. And lots of water. Yeah, you'll have a good crop of weeds. There's probably an old saying to describe getting more of a good thing than you would have chosen....but I can't think of one.Stay well.

    1. I have to agree with you JudithK, it was an early and welcome surprise to have such low temperatures at this time of the year.

We needed the rain but not the crop of weeds that are already making their presence felt.

      Stay safe.
