Four teachers test positive / Hula Hoe / Rat Trap

It is hard to find information about what is happening in Del Rio if you only rely on the local newspaper that prior to COVID-19 only published three times a week and now it is down to twice a week. The online edition does not allow you to read more than one article before asking you to pay up.

While El Zócalo ( Cd. Acuña) newspaper prints daily and you can read all their articles for free...there is a price to pay...millions of pop-ups and ads. When you go to their Texas articles that means Eagle Pass and Del Rio. For some reason, they give priority to Eagle Pass, Texas and I have to navigate through a stream of ads to get to the Del Rio section.

That is when an article caught my eye...four teachers in the Eagle Pass Independent School District namely Eagle Pass High School have come down with COVID-19. I certainly do not envy those parents who have to make the difficult decision of whether or not to send their children to school.

We had a high of 91 degrees today but I barely felt it because I stayed in the A/C only going out to feed the cats and hang some laundry. That is until this afternoon that I grabbed my stirrup hoe also known as a hula hoe to remove some weeds by the clothesline. The hula hoe reminded me of Billy Bob...I miss him :-(

Most of my clothes were dry except for the long sleeve sweatshirt that I wore during our cold front so decided to leave it outside since it was only 6:30 p.m.  Bob Woodward was going to be on Anderson Cooper's show this evening at 7:00 p.m. CST so five minutes before I went to retrieve it.

Where are you going with this Belinda?  I am coming to that...an odd thing happened...there was a large rat trap in the area I had cleared near the clothesline that would have been impossible not to have seen before. I should have taken a picture of it, it was a rather new trap but it is rare that I carry my cellphone around with me.

How did it get there? The cats are not going to carry a rat trap in their mouth. There are no dogs here and I doubt someone could have thrown it that far from the street or the neighbors from their back yard. Hmmm...all kinds of bells went off in my head. Just to be on the safe side I pulled out my pea shooter like Penelope likes to call hers...you just do not know what crazies might be lurking around.  So if something happens to me please mention this small detail to the Sheriff's Department.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. I miss Billy Bob too and Dizzy Dick who just seems to have gone missing since Feb. 1st.

So Your saying this rat trap just showed up in your yard? Maybe someone is trying to catch one of your kitties? Be careful the world seems to be full of crazy people lately.

    1. I worry about Dizzy too since I know that his wife's passing was hard on him. I miss Billy Bob because he made me laugh like a madwoman and sometimes we need that...especially now.

Yeap, the rat trap showed up 25 minutes after I had cleared some weeds that were just sprouting. I must admit it had not crossed my mind that someone might be trying to harm my cats as the trap was no set.

My first thought was that it was meant for me and this time I am not blaming the rowdy-drunk neighbor whom I have not seen in days though his truck is still parked at his parent's house.

    2. Something seems to be not right here. How would that rat trap have gotten there unless someone put it there? Please be careful.

    3. Penelope seems to have a good hypothesis as to how it might have gotten there.

I had just been clearing the small clover that is starting to pop up so I know it was not there, I could not have missed it. I just have to stay vigilant.

    1. Caddie, the last time I heard about him was from the late George Yates of "Our Awesome Travels" fame. He told me that Billy Bob was active on Facebook. I do not have a Facebook account.

His blog was the highlight of my evenings too. I am so glad I got to meet him in person on several occasions.

  3. Bob Woodward told the Truth. Guess who lied.
Be Safe and Enjoy your cooler days.

    It's about time.

    1. Bob Woodward told the truth and he has the tapes to back it up. Even with that evidence, the Liar-in-Chief denies it.

I suppose temperatures in the '90s are cooler than being in the triple digits. I wish we had your nice temperatures.

  4. I have an idea about your rat trap mystery. I spend a lot of time learning survival tricks and one of them is about rat traps used for catching small animals for food. They say to always drill a hole and tie it with wire to something because the animal can run off with the trap. So maybe they had it set and the rat left with the trap, then got free of it. Or maybe it is a SIGN from the universe to keep your pea shooter handy and be alert! Lol
I didn't read your friend's blog and hope he is okay. It seems the brightest stars burn out the fastest.
We still have a lot of smoke in the air and are under fire watch.
Stay safe and well, my friend :-)

    1. Your explanation certainly makes sense though it would have had to have been a big rat to carry the trap so far if it was coming from the southern part of the property by where Juliet's corral is located.

Maybe I am letting my mind wander but it is always a good idea to keep my pea shooter close by just in case.

Is the smoke in your area coming from the fires in Oregon and California or do you also have fires in Montana? Please stay alert and be safe my friend.

  5. Maybe it was some other kind of animal? Although I have seen a few big rats in Texas. I once saw one in San Antonio the size of a cocker spaniel. Not exaggerating. I can still remember the horror of it and it has been forty years.
There are quite a few fires in Montana. More fire warnings locally. It is scary. I think most of the smoke is blowing in from the west coast. Lots of fires in Idaho and Nevada, as well. It is hard to breathe and the sun is just a bright pink/orange ball.

    1. I just can not think of another kind of animal that could have brought it or for that matter what person since there was still daylight and the gate remains locked.

I was eating at a Pizza Hut in Houston about 30 years ago when I saw motion out the window near the trash dumpster. I thought there were cats but then I saw their tails...I completely freaked out as I had never seen such large rats in my life. I lost my appetite and left...yet the memory of that event still makes me shiver.

I certainly hope your wildfire threat goes down and that you soon get some precipitation. Be well.

  6. I have no answer to your rat trap problem. If it had been set, that would be a problem. Just to have it show up is weird. But I can help you a bit with your lack of info about where you live and covid: https://valverdecounty.texas.gov/350/COVID-19-Information
It was updated today, so I assume they are doing that as often as possible.
Let me know if you have trouble with the link.

  7. P.S. This site probably doesn't tell you everything you would like to know. I'm a numbers nerd, and have been keeping (that is, writing down) local numbers for months. It gives me a good idea of where we are going. Also, you might try to check the school district webpage. In this county, one school district posts cases and schools, and whether students or employees. But those should be incuded in the county numbers.
