Another night of record cold in Texas

Last night and this morning we were experiencing a lot of power surges and while they only lasted two or three seconds it takes five to six minutes for the modem to reboot. I decided to disconnect every appliance we did not need including my computer and called it a night.

We have one more frigid night to go through.

I need to download the pics from my phone and get those posted as well.  We had record-breaking snowfall both in Del Rio and surrounding areas.

Here are the Del Rio numbers in terms of prior setting records...

These are the South Texas snowfall reports. In case you are wondering Lake View is by Lake Amistad. I apologize for the poor quality of the shots as I have a cheap cellphone and I took pictures off of the TV.

This would have been a good picture...I really need a new camera!

I can barely make out some of the readings I took.

Good night may you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Now I understand your frustration with the Snow especially with the power problems on top of it all. I'm just glad I don't have to shovel it.
Be Safe and Enjoy the beauty of the wonderland.

    It's about time.

    1. I do not know how you Canadians can put up with the cold temperatures in your country.

  2. As awful as it has been all over Texas I think a bunch of kids have had quite the experience with that much snow. Of course, it is only fun if you have a warm house to go into after.
I have been trying to keep up with all the news and so much of it is just heart breaking. Busted pipes and water damage is horrible. I haven't heard any estimates as to how much but it has affected so many people. Dry wall will have to be ripped out, plus pipes replaced. Lots of videos of collapsed ceilings. Where are all these people going to live? How will they eat...school their children?
AOC has raised over 4 million. She and Beto are a shining example to Terd Cruz..as Twitter now refers to him. He looks even worse, if that is possible.
Terd and Heidi left their little poodle alone in that cold house. I hope PETA will soon go after them for that.
We had a light snow last night but temps in the toasty twenties. I hope you are snug and warm my friend.

    1. I was finally able to speak to my Houston neighbor and she told me several houses in our block had busted pipes. She had one as well but outside because her husband forgot to cover it but another neighbor helped him to repair it. The worse part was he had to wait in line at the local Home Depot for over an hour and they were out of a lot of things.

The questions you pose are those many families are asking themselves all over Texas. Hope our elected officials can find solutions to this and so many other problems.

You wrote this on Saturday, Feb 20th as of Monday, Feb 22nd AOC has now raised close to 5 million in less than 96 hours. What a difference that is going to make to so many charities and not a single person in Texas voted for her.

While Beto and his volunteers made over 784,000 calls to senior citizens to connect them to water, food, transportation, and shelter. Making sure that they knew that they were thinking of them and that they mattered. Hope you people that voted for Terd Cruz are happy with your choice when you could have elected a decent man who thinks of others before himself.

I saw the poodle but since he was behind a full glass screen door they probably left him in the freezing house along with the maid. So who cares if the dog or the maid freeze to death? Not them they were going to Cancun!

Our arctic front is over but you are still in pretty cold temperatures. Stay warm.

  3. That is a lot of snow for a place the very rarely gets any at all. Hoping the worst is over for the weather and you and mom stay safe and warm.

    1. You are right it was too much snow and twice in one week. Now Texans have to deal with the aftermath. Today the temperatures are back to normal it is currently a sunny 73-degree afternoon.

    2. Did you shut down comments on your new post?

  4. Hope you made it through all this unscathed. We were pretty darn lucky. No broke pipes, though we are still under a boil water order. I'll take it. Our power is back up and the snow has melted. We did have to toss a refrigerator full of food but again, I consider ourselves very lucky considering all the poor folks scrambling to find a plumber or worse, the pipes needed to fix whatever is broken.

I had to drive into San Antonio yesterday and passed a huge billboard in town with Ted's disgusting face plastered on it. It said, Ted Cruz: Resign!

    1. I thought of you and your wife and how beautiful it must have looked at your place. Glad to hear you guys made out ok. We are also under a boil water order but I always have more than enough water on hand a lesson learned from my years of living in Houston and having to deal with tropical storms and hurricanes.

On the Rachel Maddow Show, she mentioned the billboards that were being placed all over Texas. If my memory serves me right (which most of the time it doesn't) I believe it was in early January and it was due to the insurrection he helped incite long before his most recent scandal.

You are the first person I read that has seen the billboard. If he had an ounce of decency he would resign even more so after the Cancun debacle.

  5. Hope to hear from you soon. All OK here, to my surprise, with lights, heat, and water. Bone chilling though in spite. But I have been very very lucky.

    1. It is always good to hear when things go well it counters all the sad stories in the news. Glad everything is well with you and that you too are enjoying warm temperatures.

  6. Reading your replies to comments, sounds like you've made out OK with the results of the cold, but the Houston house is still a maybe? Right? I hope it is OK to. It's been over 70 the last two days here, and I am one happy camper. Finally this old body is warm. And still OK with all the house systems. What a relief. And what a snow for Del Rio!!! I liked you photo of mequites in the snow. Pretty much of a rarity for down there.

    1. I turned off the water in Houston a long time ago and drained the lines to the best of my ability but I will have to make a trip to confirm that.

I was so disappointed with the snow pictures that I deleted the majority of them. I need a new phone but with the outrageous electricity bills due to the inclement weather, I don't know if I can even afford that!
