Derksen Portable Buildings in Del Rio, Texas

I can hardly believe that February is already here...January just raced by and I have not accomplished a thing. Once again yesterday Monday, February 1st I woke up to a flashing alarm clock indicating that the power went out during the night.

This weekend I considered driving out to the post office early Sunday morning to pick up my mail but never got around to it. Instead, I bundled up and watched some of my long-ago recorded shows so I could erase them from my DVR.

I have been wanting to go to the Derksen Portable Building lot for a while now. It is located on Highway 90 on the way to San Antonio but about a year ago they put up a fence so I have to enter its main gate and I did not want to have to talk to a salesperson.

The two cabins that I saw appeared to be used buildings.

Had to zoom in to see the price
of this 12 x 36 cabin $11,565.00

This other cabin is smaller but did not have a visible price tag.

I also liked this smaller shed (the beige and brown one on the left) that appears to be new.

From here I headed to Walmart that usually puts its storage bins on sale during January where I picked up some clear one's last year. This being February I did not expect to find any but I did...though not clear ones.

We have had beautiful sunny days but the winds have made them feel chilly.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Some of those sheds could be used as homes just by adding Electrical, Plumbing, Insulation and Wallboards. The porches from the Sun and Dust will take on an aged appearance. They could be new buildings.
Be Safe and Enjoy the warmth.

    It's about time.

    1. While what you are saying is true...I do not want this cabin to live in, but to store my many boxes as my mother's home is small.

My cellphone has a lousy camera so it is hard to make out but the smaller brown cabin has an electrical box outside and both windows are open and neither has a screen while the new ones do.

The blue cabin has Christmas or solar lights all around the cabin which once more leads me to believe it is a repo and not new.

  2. Ah. You're not daydreaming about a tiny house to live in then, in Terlingua. For storage only, metal buildings would probably be cheaper. I wouldn't want to live in one unless I had to, but a little wooden one would do for that.
Got my first vaccine shot today. The county did a good job of putting out a list to sign up on. And it was smooth as silk. No waiting. They got a shipment of 600 shots, and there were 6 rows of cars progresing throught the drive-through. I hope you can get some soon.
My only worry is that I was able to do it because I check the county website and I know how to use a computer. There are other old people who don't do that, and they won't know.Though I think it was on the radio, which I don't listen to, with a phone number to call.

    1. No, this time I am daydreaming of a cabin in mom's property for storage only. While metal buildings are cheaper they are also hotter and I would like to be able to open the windows to air it out now and then as you can not do that with sheds or risk the cats, critters, or a snake to sneak in.

Good for you for getting your first vaccine shot. Here you had to e-mail the county to get an appointment at the Civic Center and by the time we found out all the appointments were taken. I hope future vaccine drives are drive-thru they are more convenient and have less risk than going into a building.

  3. Those sheds are full of possibilities but the prices seem high. I guess it depends on the value of what you are wishing to store.
I have also been unable to find the clear boxes for storage. I had a brief whirl of decluttering, but need to give it another try. I did dispose of a lot of stuff and now can barely remember any of it. I still like the free box idea so I didn't feel as guilty as tossing things in the trash.
I bet some of those bldgs are repos. There are so many cool solar lights now.
We finally had a bit of snow two days ago and they are calling for blizzard conditions the next two days. I think I will stay tucked in by the fire and binge watch movies. Uh, I mean do more decluttering...Jajaja
I had a fan from my radio show turn into a lovesick stalker. A business owner who is well known. Think I have handled it but am staying off the show for a bit until he cools his jets. I am too old for this. At first,it was funny. Now it's creepy.

    Stay safe, my friend.

    1. I thought the prices were high as well. The last time I stopped in Hondo, Texas found a NEW larger cabin at a comparable price made by Premier Portable Buildings but since that was two and a half years ago I am sure the prices have gone up.

Today we reached 79 degrees and tomorrow it should be in the high 80's only to take a tumble overnight.

Stalkers are not fun have had to tangle with a couple of them in Terlingua as have my friends. Lots of weirdos at the Chili Cook-off but I would not trade it for anything. At least your stalker is far away.

      Stay safe and warm amiga!

  4. Its funny you posted the sheds today as I watched some guy going a walk through some that had been repos. Some weren't bad and but some had been messed up. The prices were cheaper than the ones you were able to see a price. One even was already wired for electric. Wonder how much that little beige shed was. Some times Lowe's and Home Depot have some outside the store.

    Love Auntie Acid LOL

    1. In Uvalde, Texas (sixty miles away) they used to have a separate Derksen lot comprised of only repos and they had affordable prices. Next time we are headed to San Antonio I will drive by and see if it is still there.

While we do not have a Lowe's we do have a Home Depot. They used to have a lot of sheds but when Derkersen Buildings came into town they took their customers away as they were far cheaper so now they only have one or two models at the most.

I was going through my stash of Aunty Acids when I ran into this one and could not stop laughing because it was as though she had me in mind when she wrote it :-)
