Snow in the forecast

This morning I was outside early. I used the last of my pool noodles to insulate the exposed outside pipes.  I had a 36 lb. bag of cat food in the car that I had not had a chance to cut open and put in individual yogurt containers as they are easier to handle and it keeps the food fresh for longer...got both chores out of the way before the rain began.

Note how green the tree is behind the water take and how many weeds we already have. I am thinking after the severe freeze and snow in our future that will not be the case for long.

The ten o'clock news from San Antonio showed long lines of HEB customers in that city preparing for what will be three frigid days beginning tomorrow.  I have no idea why people would wait until the last minute to go shopping.  My best friend told me the same scenario took place in Houston today but she sent her boyfriend to the store...smart girl!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Glad you're getting ready for the storm. The Radar shows it heading our way afterwards with a 6" accumulation possible.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. The last time I had busted pipes it was not fun or cheap. At least I am making use of the last of my pool noodle supply.

Your Canadian structures are built to withstand brutal winters...not so much in Texas where we rarely see these kinds of temperatures.

  2. I have been keeping a close eye on your weather and it looks as though this will be an epic storm.
It is good you put your pool noodles to good use. My water has been frozen for four days now. I had plenty of water stored, so no big deal. The toilet still flushes, so no worries there.
It just amazes me that people wait until the eleventh hour to stock up. Then have to be in line, mingling with Covidiots, and possibly not getting what you need. And then be out on unsafe roads!
Your sweet cats are lucky you look after them so well. Paquito will be crawling under the covers with you to stay warm.
I knew the Senate would not vote to impeach but I was still disappointed. I hope the rest of his legal woes won't go as well.
We finally got 2 degrees above zero today. They had forecasted we would get up to 14* but it didn't get close.
I am wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day and hoping you are able to stay warm.
Love Auntie Acid and your quote!

    1. Winter storm Uri has kicked our behinds here in Texas and while the snowfall is over with, it will be days before it will melt as the temperatures remain below the freezing mark.

I am glad you and I are storing water as it was scary hearing that someone attempted to hack the water supply in a small town in Florida last week, thank goodness an employee saw the hack as it was taking place. While my rain catchment is frozen I have three 32 gal containers full of city tap water plus multiple containers both of store-bought as well as our San Felipe Springs Del Rio water.

It baffles me that after the long lines last year prepping for the Covid-19 lockdown that we have not learned our lesson and do not continue to keep enough supplies on hand to last at least a week if not more.

We all knew that the votes were not there for conviction of the "now-disgraced twice impeached one term ex-president". I somehow feel better knowing that seven brave senators were willing to listen to the evidence and side with the facts even at peril to their career, themselves, and their families.

The inspiration for today's blog quote came from Representative Jamie Raskin in his closing statement. Aunty Acid nailed my Valentine's Day or lack thereof experience.

Girl, I do not know how a Texas native can handle those brutal Montana temperatures. Bundle up and stay warm too!

  3. Well, I think Penelope is right. This is one for the records. I remember 5 degrees, I also remember two weeks below freezing in '83, which also broke water mains in town and made the streets like skating rinks, but so far this one doesn't seem to last that long. For which I am glad. They say 59 on Saturday. I may go lay out in the yard naked. At present it is 7 and has snowed all day. Zero for tonight.I live in an old house....Ok so far.

    1. It is one for the records indeed. While I did not live in Del Rio at the time mother says it snowed around 8 inches in 1984 or 1985 and my dad had to shovel the driveway to go to work.

"I may go layout in the yard naked".....jajajaja...it reminded me of a similar thing Kelly Ripa said to a Texas caller who mentioned it was cool in Texas and when she inquired how cool, he said in the low 60's.

The cable and Internet kept on going out last night so I had to go by the temperature in my cellphone. Hope you did not suffer any setbacks last night.

    2. Just confirmed that the storm I reference above was known as The Great 1985 Snow Storm.

The January 11-13, 1985 snow event caused 1 to 14 inches of snow over the area. The official measurement for Austin was 3.6 inches. In San Antonio total snowfall came in at 13.5 inches, while Del Rio received 8.6 inches. This event significantly broke all previous snowfall records.

    3. Hope all systems are go down there. They still are here...for me (water, electricity, gas) are on all the time, but not for everyone I know. This one is a bugger. The electric people are saying don't use much, the gas people are saying don't use much, and then there we all out there....trying to stay warm. They did have some foresight with telling big gas/electric users in industry to shut it down. So maybe we'll come out of this smarter.
      I hope so.

    4. Thankfully, all systems are go here and no power outages this time...a miracle if you ask me.

  4. Have seen so many unprepared for this kind of weather on YT. Most from the Ozarks. Some don't even have covered places for the animals this I just don't understand. Outdoor faucet already frozen. So many of the things would to me be commonsense. Maybe because I have lived in both climates. They say stores are empty except for tP LOL

    1. Unprepared people are everywhere. They interviewed this guy and his family stranded for 10 hours on the highway, he was a diabetic and did not have food, and was feeling weak. His baby ran out of pampers and they were freezing because they did not have warm enough jackets or blankets with them. How can you go on a trip out of town in this inclement weather with a baby unprepared?

I feel sorry for all the homeless pets and even those with families that are left out in the elements. Juliet, the neighbor's horse is one of them.

HEB's in Texas are opening late and closing early. It would be a real disgrace after we all have been through for people not to have an ample supply of toilet paper at home.

  5. I have tried on three occasions to reply to comments this evening and experienced power spikes. While they only lasted two to three seconds...It takes five to six minutes for the internet to come back on.

Right now the snow is coming down. We are at 20 degrees with a feel like of 4 degrees.I have never been in four degree weather!
