Aftermath of hail storm

After watching the 10:00 p.m. evening news last night and seeing photographs from people in the immediate area who had sent them to the different San Antonio television stations I realized how lucky we were.

With the morning light, I noticed the two small side mirrors were broken in dad's old car. Though you can not tell from these pictures the silver strip on both sides was dented.

Passenger side mirror...

It also chipped the two back tail lights.  All this is minor damage.

This is what the Hyundai dealership in the north part of town had to deal with.

I read that the city sirens had gone off both in Del Rio as well as in Ciudad Acuña around 8:00 p.m.  Since I fell asleep with the TV on I never heard them until the initial pounding woke me up.

We had a low of 55 and a high of 87 degrees today.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. That car dealership reminds me of the Fort Worth Cinco de Mayo big hailstorm that did alotta damage in 1997. Glad you only had minimal damage!!

    1. We have had quite a few hail storms since I moved back home the last one about three years ago also hit the north part of town and about all those homes required new roofs so in an odd way it was a boost to the local economy...something that is much needed now.

Off-topic is it true that Terlingua has pretty much been shut down because of this pandemic?

    2. From what we've been seeing on various Terlingua area Facebook pages, that is the case.

  2. You were very lucky with the slight damage you received.
Those Hail Stones would definitely be deadly.

    It's about time.

    1. Very lucky indeed Rick. Had this part of Val Verde County been hit by those softball-size balls it could have been tragic.

  3. It looks like you came thru the storm with no major damage! That's a good thing.

  4. That top picture was on one of the Twitter feeds. Wow!
Went out for gas today. Pretty cheap, I paid $2.089..I use the middle button.
The sun was out but we only got up to 30*. Your warm temps sound lovely.

    1. Lol, so the Del Rio News-Herald ripped a picture off of Twitter? Glad you are finally seeing lower gasoline prices. Our temperature today only reached into the low 70's and it felt wonderful. Would you believe the Texas Panhandle got snow today? Your temperature of 30 degrees is on the frigid side...brrrrrr!

  5. You got lucky with little damage. The car lot will have to raise the prices on those cars to cover the damages even if they are covered under Ins.

    1. Yes, JO we were fortunate. I do not know how hail damaged vehicles are priced. I hope they offer some bargains though at this time I do not know who would want to purchase a vehicle when no one knows if they will still have a job next week.

  6. Crazy! Just crazy. I was waiting for that storm to come through and hit us, but I guess we were far enough south of Highway 90 that it rolled right through. We got rain in Lytle, but not much else.

    1. We are no strangers to hail storms but the sheer size was unbelievable. Glad your area lucked out.
