Our last cold front of the season / A different kind of panic buying

The day started out cloudy, warm, and gloomy. The sky to the northwest of us looked like a strong thunderstorm was imminent but it never made it to the southern tip of the county. At least not that storm...at 2:57 p.m. we had a nice shower that lasted for ten minutes. The nice part was that the temperature dropped 15 degrees to a very comfortable 64.  It is certain to be the last cold front of the season...I do not know if I should be happy or sad?

In these trying times, I love to see or hear about stories that bring a smile or a chuckle.  I started hearing last night about panic buying in Mexico...but in a different twist it has nothing to do with food or toilet paper.

People were panic buying BEER!  It seems the Mexican government has determined that brewing beer is a "non-essential business" so breweries were ordered to shut down until the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

No more Corona, Dos Equis, Tecate or Bud Light (which I did not know was brewed in Mexico) and probably explains why there always have large stacks of them in Mexican grocery stores. https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/04/03/827206308/shoppers-in-mexico-are-panic-buying-beer-during-the-coronavirus-crisis

Today we had a low of 58 and a high of 79 degrees.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. In the comment section of the 04/02/2020 blog, MsB wrote this comment on 04/03/2020:

Rachel Maddow was outstanding hope to catch the repeat tomorrow

MsB, you can watch the previous Rachel Maddow show free on the Internet. These are the instructions for watching the previous Rachel Maddow show:

    1. Go to the main MSNBC website: https://www.msnbc.com/

    2. Scroll about half-way down the page to a large black and white photo of Rachel. She will be the first one on the left of your screen.

[NOTE: it is probably more accurately called a gray-scale or green-tint photo instead of a black and white photo of Rachel.]

    3. Left-click on the large photo of Rachel.

    4. There will be a video in the middle of the screen and four or five smaller videos on the right of the screen. These are different segments of the show from the night before.

    5. Left-click on the segment you want to watch. You can view it in full-screen by clicking on the [ ] icon with an arrow pointing to the upper right inside the [ ] located in the lower-right of the video. You will have to move the arrow icon with your mouse over the video to see that icon.

I think, only the previous night’s show is available.
I think, the Friday show stays up on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
I think, the Monday show is displayed on Tuesday.
    It is free.

    1. I want to thank you for taking the time to write down meticulous instructions for people who like myself that are not "tech-savvy" can easily follow.

I can not always catch Rachel Maddow's show during its regularly scheduled time slot so I will watch the re-broadcast later in the evening.

I am fortunate to have cable and if I also happen to miss the re-broadcast I can watch it free of charge On Demand. On Saturday night I like to re-watch her Friday night show especially when last night's show was in my opinion "eye-opening spectacular". They did not re-air her show this evening as MSNBC had a special on the CoronaVirus Pandemic.

I hope some of my readers if they care to watch the show will do so with the help of your well-written instructions. Thank you.

  2. That is a bold step by Mexico, no beer? Stay home, don't die and no you can't have any more beer.
I suspect that will not go over really well.

I had to go out yesterday, there was no way around it. Tractor Supply (I could hear the chicks! No. I didn't look), Walmart and the gas station ($2.39/g). There are some things here that have to be done & supplies were needed. I stuck to my list (an extra pound of butter was not on the list..) But I did pick up a couple of bandannas (red & green)to use as facemasks from Tractor Supply as well as the 2 gal gas ($13) can I went there for.
Right now (0800 PDT) it's about 30 degrees out (going up to 51), the Hood Canal is flat calm and I can see snow on the mountains.
Plus it seems I want to talk... :-)

    Hang in there MsBelinda!

    1. Poor Mexico after their President first denied and then downplayed the CoronaVirus Pandemic...not only issues a national shelter-in-place mandate...now takes their beer, tequila, and other domestic liquors from them. If I lived in Mexico I too would have been panic buying beer!

Good to hear you were able to go to Tractor & Supply, Walmart and were able to fill up at a good price. Were there empty shelves at you Walmart?

Nothing wrong with wanting to talk :)

You hang in there as well Rob!

  3. This reminds me of back in the day when we were all bootlegging Coors beer. Ha
I seldom drink beer anymore but I remember loving a cold beer on a hot day. Stocking up is a grand idea, I think. We are all going to need some comfort this summer. I did buy an extra bottle or two of my favorite hard alcohol.."for medicinal purposes only",as my grandma would say. Good for coughs, too.
Yes, it is vitally important to distract ourselves from the endless s h * t show that is being fed to us on an endless loop.
I made fabulous enchiladas for supper. Life is good.

    1. Lol, you bootlegged Coors too? jajajajajajaja...thought I was the only one I knew who did that. I made some extra money but in hindsight should have charged more!

I like your grandma's saying..." for medicinal purposes only "...I might just borrow it :D

You made fabulous enchiladas for supper and I made Ramen soup :-(

    1. I enjoy the purple sage in particular because it grows everywhere and I do not have to do a thing to it.

I do not know for a fact but someone once told me the variation in color has to do with the amount of rainfall.

Good idea in getting your A/C serviced as the heat is not far away.

Aunty Acid is a wise woman!
