Preparing for a plunge in temperatures / Mini Rant

This has been one of the oddest winters in relation to fluctuation in temperatures that I can remember.  We have had temperatures as high as 93 to as low as 22 degrees Fahrenheit.  Strong winds and rain have only made it worst.

Thursday I went to Walmart to stock up on groceries as I have not been able to make a grocery run to Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila - México in a long time. The bad thing about living in a small town is that you tend to run into people you do not really want to see much less engage in a meaningless conversation with.

Such was the case that day. This lady is a lovely person but for some reason every time she sees me the first thing out of her mouth is wanting to know if I am dating someone. I moved to Del Rio to take care of my mother just when or where does she expect me to meet someone?  At Stripes, the library, little HEB or the laundromat? She always ends the conversation letting me know that she is praying for me to find a good man. She is in her 70's and became a widow in her 40's. Perhaps she should pray for a good man for herself? OK, end of rant!!!

We are expecting strong winds to usher in a cold front late this evening or early tomorrow morning. Brought the plants in and put away anything that might become projectiles. Bundle up and keep warm.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

    1. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining about the upcoming cold front because I know how hot it is going to be in a couple of weeks. If anything I suffer from cabin fever during the summer as my body can not handle the over 100 degree temperatures anymore.

  2. Yes, it has been a strange year with temperatures yo-yoing up and down. When I head out for groceries or something, I throw a jacket in the Jeep just in case the temperatures take another yo-yo dip. Right now it is down to 40 degrees here just north of Houston.

    1. We are also at 40 degrees right now but it feels like 34 per The Weather Channel.

In this kind of weather it is always a good idea to have a spare jacket or coat in ones vehicle.

  3. Yes I have to agree with everyone. This has been the strangest winter. But we are now going to be in the mid 80's this week. That to soon for me. So I'm glad I'll be heading to hight ground this week for a few days. Last night had to sleep with fan on.

Why do people think everyone needs a man or a woman in their life and even more a pain is when they ask couples when are they going to have kids. What business is it of theirs anyway.

    1. I am glad to hear that you are finally going to be able to make the trip to the mountains that you have so wanted but had to postpone on various occasions due to the weather.

I have no idea why people feel that a single person needs a man or woman in their life in order to feel complete. I certainly do not share those sentiments.

There is a saying in Spanish...Es mejor estar sola(o) que mal acompañada(o)...which roughly translates to...It is better to be alone than in bad company.

    2. That Spanish saying has that one right!

    3. I like that saying too Rob. It is frequently quoted in Spanish soap operas.

  4. Some people just don't understand that not everyone "needs" a partner. Keep yourself warm there then soon you will need to cool down.

    1. It was nice and warm in my bed this morning...I actually got seven hours of sleep...that for me is highly unusual but most welcomed.

  5. It could be the only thing that she can think of talking about. Before she says anything the next time Ask her how her Garden is going. It will completely throw her off. She may not have a garden but that's okay just keep asking her the same question. That will either have her asking different questions or avoiding you completely.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. You know that might be a good strategy to try on her, what have I got to lose?

  6. Haha - been there / done that with a nosey older lady. You could tell her you're lesbiana but then everybody from Langtry to Eagle Pass would think so and you'll never lasso that old weathered cowpoke!

    Big game tonite so GSG!

    2. I was screaming like a mad woman!! After Rudy missed those two free throws I honestly did not think we were going to win.

Like that guy that co-hosts with Sean (I can never remember his name) said...people re-set your pacemakers.

    3. You will never guess what I was drinking during the game...hot decaffinated coffee. I do not care for coffee but I had no other hot beverage around.

Just took my blood pressure (I have to take it nightly) and it was 177/79 72 which is high.

Do not know what to blame, the coffee, the nerve wracking game or both. Just glad we got a WIN!

    4. Guuuuuuuuuurl, that BP is scary! Too much Stripes and not enough salad! Last May I went to the doctor and mine was 188/90 and he wanted to put me in the horsepital! I talked my way out of it. Going to my first Medicare doctor visit today - hopefully not that bad again.

SPURS playing decent again - last nite's ending was scary but we'll forget about it soon and the W will still be there. And Denver is 2nd best team in the West. I wish he'd play some of the new guys more just in case of injuries plus development.

    5. I do not eat at Stripes that often but I do buy their half chicken plate, feed the skin to the cats (they love it) shred it and put it in my daily salad.

Once in a while I will buy me breakfast tacos as I know they use a lot salt and to give me a break from all the cereal I eat. High blood pressure runs in my family.

Hope your first visit with your Medicare doctor went well.

This evening they have two good games on TNT - Houston vs Raptors and Celtics vs GSW...guess which teams I will be rooting for?

    6. Your Warriors lost 5 of last 8 games.

    7. Lol, since when are they "My Warriors"?

I had no idea they had lost so many games.

      Early game tonight...GSG!!!
