Seriously, why am I still surprised when this happens?

It was cold last night which made for some good sleeping weather.  However, that sentiment was not shared by the cats especially Paquito who came to whine by my bedroom window. As I prepared to go outside to feed them the wind was so strong it was preventing me from opening the kitchen door with one hand while I held their food container in the other. I would later learn on the news at noon that we had gusts up to 51 mph this morning.

We have had strong winds for a couple of days now but not like this morning.  It was then that I allowed myself to be amazed that the power had not gone out...that was a mistake!  As soon as that thought crossed my mind at 10:33 a.m. the electricity went outSeriously why am I still surprised when this happens?

I immediately thought of an article in The Del Rio News-Herald that they allowed people to read for free with regards to the elections which took into account this possibility:

"Val Verde County Clerk Generosa “Janie” Gracia-Ramon and her staff are preparing the venue for voters to cast their ballot. Ramon said she and her staff have prepared for many possible scenarios that could take place, such as the power going out."

I will not know until Sunday since our local newspaper only prints on Wednesday and Sunday how they handled this glitch.

This time the power going out was not as big of a deal as it has been in the past since an air conditioner was not needed this morning.  Plus the sun was shining brightly, and I used my solar light to charge my cellphone at the same time.

Finally, at 11:52 a.m. the power was restored but too late for me to watch a show I wanted to see...will just have to find the time to watch it On Demand.

The winds finally died down this afternoon. We had a high of 75 degrees today...which I consider to be perfect weather.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Power Outages happen quite a bit in your area. Sounds more like a problem of an old system that has needed upgrading for a long time.
Both your cartoons are perfect for this time.
Be Safe and Enjoy the cooler temperatures.

    It's about time.

    1. I do not know what the problem is I just wish they would address it because it is happening more often. I figured after Walmart had to put tarps in their seafood and meat department to keep their product cold something would have been done.

I found these cartoons last night and thought some of my readers would enjoy them glad you did.

  2. We have also had some serious wind here and my phone and internet has been off and on. It appears a lot of people everywhere are having the same issues. KVPI has had issues, too. Makes me wonder what is really going on.
I am wondering if you have seen or heard any news about Bill Barr? It appears to me he is under the radar. Some references to and about him, but nothing direct and no film. Is he ill with Covid..or d e a d ? Or moved to Russia...lol
    Love your cartoons.
    Stay safe, my friend

    1. As you know I am not on social media and I have not seen or heard reports in cable news that I trust that have made any mention of this except for the fact that foreign agents are attacking our hospitals with ransomware. Please let me know what is being said there.

Funny I have not seen or heard of Bill Barr either and again no mention of him on cable news. I think he must be in hiding for some reason probably COVID-19 related?

Going to use another Spanish saying..."Mala hierba nunca muere" which translates to "a bad weed never dies". I want him around so he can be impeached and have his fat ass dragged to jail.

Just finished watching the Rachel Maddow Show and it was chilling. They also had a report on your adoptive state of Montana.

Glad you enjoyed the cartoons. You take care as well as the next few days will be challenging particularly the day after the election as this clown is not going to concede defeat.

  3. If socialism sounds good, I will agree with that last cartoon. So many these days hoping for all the freebies to come.

    1. Caddie I think you have unintentionally fallen for the "socialism" line that the GOP and far-right media are trying to scare people with.

Funny they want to scare the masses about "socialism" but yet chose to hide how dangerous Covid-19 was back in January per recorded conversations between Trump and Bob Woodward. If he had only been truthful with the American people thousands of lives could have been saved. Yet to this day he continues to lie to us saying we have defeated this virus...do you believe that too?

You have access to the Internet or you could not have made your comment. I urge you to fact check things and not blindly believe what is being said by this administration.

  4. Well, I'm glad you had a bit of perfect temperatures. (We had strong winds too.) I need to look up Val Verde county, as I think of it as having more people than my county (30,000). I guess you are just still out on the hinterlands where the infrastructure is not so hot. Does Oncor do your electric service delivery? I guess I could look that up too.
Anything to get through the next few days.

    1. Val Verde County per Google has a population of 49,025 as of 2019 but local authorities question that arguing it is much higher.

We live in the boonies and I am not on social media. Add to that that our local newspaper sucks, and I have no way of knowing if our outages also take place in the city.

Had it not been that I happened to have gone to Walmart the afternoon of an earlier power outage I would not have known it had hit them as they still had tarps covering the seafood and meat sections.

Our electric service provider is CPL Retail Energy.

    2. Hm. I thought Oncor had pretty much sewed the state up for delivery. I do have to admit they have done a good job here. Wow, a lot more people down there than I thought. OK. Hope you are still perking along.

    3. I had never heard of Oncor before until you mentioned them the other day. In Houston my provider is Reliant.

  5. Love the cartoons you've been posting.

After freezing for a couple of days we hit 88 today, should have gone out and turned the water on for the cooler but did turn on a/c for just a bit.

    1. I have to admit the cartoons are to be able to laugh and to keep my sanity in this fast-moving news cycle that I hope will end soon.

88 degrees is warm for this time of the year. We only reached 74 degrees today but the winds made it feel much cooler.
